nash
What would you go for and why?
mcnach
Depends on what you want to do with it. I have both a G-Labs Wah and several envelope filters... If your question really is about the difference between envelope filters and 'autowah' pedals... I'd say that there is so much variation among envelope filters that you could just put them all into the same category, and choosing one becomes a matter of trying several and finding the one you like best. paul_5
Most of the time I'd plump for an envelope filter, just because it's a 'set and forget' sound, and I can run around and be an idiot whilst funking out. There are times when I want a slow sweep though, and a wah is much better for that sort of thing.
dannybuoy
Both! Depending on the bass and/or the tune I'm playing, either one could be best for the job. If I had to choose one, it would be envelope filter.
cheddatom
as above, I use both, they're totally different really
nash
I just watch a you tube vid with the dude who made the crybaby bass Wah and he said it's basically the MXR envelope filter with a manual expression.
cheddatom
I'm sure it is but to replicate what an envelope follower does with your foot on a wah would be extremely difficult
elephantgrey
I have an envelope filter with an LFO (for autowah) and an expression input. Best of all worlds. Edited August 9, 2016 by elephantgrey

dannybuoy
Almost, Low Frequency Oscillator. It makes things wobble. But I assumed our man was asking which pedal it was, not what an LFO is?

Japhet
I prefer the way an envelope filter responds to the dynamics of your playing.

Also has a CV out for envelope that I use to control my phaser (Chase Bliss Wombtone).

dannybuoy
Yes, I bought mine off the back of that and am very satisfied with. It takes up a lot of space on the pedal board though!
I just got a Hotone Bass Press, much smaller and sounds great. Miss the instant-on action of my old G-Lab though. nash
Well I went for mini bass crybaby. I only have a metro 16 board. Also bought an MXR bass chorus.
