sarah thomas
I am transposing a tune from an Eb part (in the key of F), written for an Eb saxophone, to a concert part in the bass clef (for upright bass). After struggling with the key signature and settling on Ab for the concert part, it now looks as though I can copy the notes as written onto the bass clef. So. a treble clef C becomes a bass clef E, treble clef B becomes bass clef D and so on. Can anyone confirm this for me? If right, this means I can play parts the saxophonist brings along by simply changing the clef and key signature, which will be a real boon! neilp
If I've understood your question, then yes you're right. Right about the key signature too
ras52
That's a neat trick with the clef swap! You can make it work with any key too, just add three flats to the key signature of the E flat part. You just needs to make sure any accidentals are treated correctly.
pete.young
Yes you are correct, and you can do the same thing with a brass band Eb bass part.
paul_c2
Effectively yes - to convert Eb treble clef to concert pitch bass clef, add 3 flats (or remove 3 sharps etc) to the key signature and then read the treble as if it were bass. Just be aware of accidentals!
