Jazzneck Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 My daughter just had me editing and mixing some stuff for her club synchronized drowning team. One of the tracks used was "Walks Like an Egyptian" by The Bangles. Although I've always liked the number this is the first time I have really listened to it. WOW! What a bass line - simplicity and really grooves even though they sound like they used a drum machine. What a bass sound - real clarity and grunt. Loved it! From what I can determine Michael Steele played bass on this. Wot you finkin'? Quote
Hobbayne Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Michael (Michelle) Steele also sings the lead vocals on the second verse. Quote
chris_b Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Over the years, the playing, arrangement and production values on most "throw-away" pop songs has been pretty excellent. Quote
scalpy Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Very emotive tune for me, not least being slightly prepubescent when the video came out! But always loved the tune, especially the big tremolo chords and the outro riff, first time I'd really heard stuff slightly outside of bog standard 80s pop harmonies. Quote
lowhand_mike Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 nice and simple but does the job perfectly, woof! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWP-AsG5DRk Quote
lojo Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 We do this in our 80s tribute, its one of those that when you get it the rhythm really kicks, but it can also be not quite right easily if your not careful Quote
TimR Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016
We do this in our 80s tribute, its one of those that when you get it the rhythm really kicks, but it can also be not quite right easily if your not careful
I seem to remember trying to play it in the late 90s with a drummer who 'didn't get it'. I think we tried for about 15mins before giving it up as a bad job. Quote
alyctes Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I'm more of a 'Hazy Shade Of Winter' person myself, but it's hard to argue with Quote
