Help please... Been sold a fender Precision that is apparently from 1976, headstock has been painted over and the only evidence there is from the neck? Does the following pic make any sense to anyone? Or have I been sold a dud...?

Really sorry to say that's not looking correct mate. I've never seen that style on the very many 70's Fenders I've had apart over the years. It's wrong for lots of reasons, no doubts.

Yes, bad luck. However, if it genuinely is from 1976 copies from that time can be good and have their own market. Esp Japanese copies. What are the markings on the electronics under the scratchplate ? Post a photo if poss?

Unfortunately, the seller said he'd replaced the pickups in the mid 80's so there not original...
