Funky Dunky Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016
no one comes round my house anyway
I would come round your house, old bean. Quote
TrevorR Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 (edited) Taxman/Start springs to mind but my "trying out a bass in a shop" tune is The Theme to Star Trek Deep Space Nine which always just falls nicely under my fingers. Only ever had someone recognise it the once. About a month ago the two guys serving in Wunjos while I was trying out a rather nice Sandberg stopped, stared at me and said, "Hey, is that Deep Space Nine? Used to love watching that..."
Derek Forbes also did a similar one note bassline for P Machinery by Propaganda which he later referred to as one of his favourite basslines in an interview for some dodgy website: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/94210-basschat-derek-forbes-interview/ Edited August 17, 2016 by darkandrew Quote
JamesBass Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Depends who it is, normally it's a toss up between The Chicken, Cisst Strut, Stevie Wonders greatest hits(I know a LOT of Stevie) Ain't No Mountain High Enough, A number of Beatles tracks. For the more discerning friend, some Snarky Puppy stuff never fails to impress, same for Jamiroquai, or I'll just make something up there and then! Quote
Hobbayne Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016
Not by me it wouldn't be. Never heard of it.
You may have heard it in the film Reservoir Dogs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8yQuivSEio Quote

MoonBassAlpha Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Word Up by Cameo or the bass breakdown from Stone Cold Bush by RHCP maybe, if I'm toting a fretted bass and the slap police aren't around Quote
ezbass Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Now I think of it, I would probably break out Good Times. Quote
Skinnyman Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016
Does anyone else go completely blank when asked to play 'something'? I have that brief second of feeling like I've never even seen the instrument before.
+1 Quote
xgsjx Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 My party piece is playing the bass with my tongue. I don't actually get much in the way of bass sounds, just some buzzing & the occasional shock. But it does put a nice shine on some parts of my bass. Oddly, not many folk are impressed by it. So I'll play Fur Elise & that Bach song that everyone knows (BVW1007). Quote
Mattpt85 Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I'm waiting for Seven Nation Army to crop up Quote
EliasMooseblaster Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 The melody from In the hall of the mountain king by Grieg. Quote
Roger2611 Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Either Rio or White Boys and Heroes depending on whether it's fretted or fretless party time, my mate annoys me as he always plays the solo from Chic's Everybody Dance when he picks up one of my basses. I can't compete with that one! Quote
Cat Burrito Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I've taken to playing Kiss' Torpedo Girl at soundcheck recently. No idea why, other than it's a fun bass part. Quote
EliasMooseblaster Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016
I do the "white-eared elephant" for a party piece.
I usually find this is met with a polite but firm "thank you sir, can you leave the shop now please?" Quote
MattM Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Given up on Good Times as its invariably met with "Oh, that sounds like Amother One Bites the Dust, can you play that?" Have reverted to I Want Your Love as a funky alternative, Wherever I Lay My Hat for the fretless ((or fretted with chorus) thing, finally for bowel-liquidisation purposes (tone/volume adjusted accordingly) Public Image by the great Mr Wobble. Barking Spiders Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 So, why does your wife hate your guitars then? Quote
Nicko Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Well, the bass is tucked away upstairs, but if asked I wouuld go with Love Cats. My Simon and Patrick SP6 is an ornament downstairs, and Dee is my party piece. Oh, its a baroque classic, no its Ozzy Osbourne. Quote
HengistPod Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 +1 for Hall Of The Mountain King. Or the Roobarb theme tune. Also +1 for Dee on ornamental acoustic guitar. Aside from powerchord nonsense, it's about alI I can play on a guitar. Quote
PaulWarning Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 (edited) sunshine of your love or Peaches, I usually mess up the Chain, and as someone else has mention I go up and down the G major scale Edited August 18, 2016 by PaulWarning Quote
