They performed for us when they were a purely acoustic band in 1976 and '77. A school mate had done one of the promotional posters in black ink and celtic scrolls for the notice board and it caught Enya's eye as she walked past. I remember the delight she took in it. She asked if she could keep it. How could he refuse? About ten years later, I was delighted to find that they had made the big time with their performance of the theme to TV's Robin of Sherwood series and I was as blown away by their awesome yet simple sound using cutting edge contemporary instruments as when I heard them first. [/quote] Ozone just brought out (AFAIK) just one LP which (again AFAIK) has been released on CD. I have the original LP. Sentimental value, so I doubt if I'll be selling it. I have seen all these bands live at one time or another. Here is another that springs to mind. Not the eighties though...more like late 60's. I was a big Red Peters fan. I used to regularly go to see him in the "Meeting Place" on Dorset St. His band(s) were always changing musicians. Most were great. Red, unfortunately, is no longer with us. Another blues band from around that time (and still going strong AFAIK) is "The Business". Yet another rock band was "Alan Dee and the Watchtower". What a pub man! It was waaaaay too convenient to drop in for a pint and a "chaser" on my way home from tech. They had some mix tapes behind the bar of bands they'd hosted. I never heard the same tune twice nor did I hear a single tune that didn't hook me in some way. My perspective was from the late seventies and eighties only because by then I had done puberty and was aware of music in a more carnal sense than I was as a child. Thank you for bringing the seventies into focus more sharply. Thin Lizzy did the big chart break through with Whiskey in the Jar in the early seventies. It caused a stir amongst the Christian Brothers in the primary school I was at by getting on Top of the Pops. Anyone who knows the strict Roman Catholic establishment will understand that that was an achievement all by itself. By putting U2 in the title of the OP I have overlooked that they weren't the first to bring celtic fusion to the world stage. Rory Gallagher is made of rock. End of. I remember playing in a support band for her and her wonderfully-named Ton Ton Macoute band in the Underground in Dublin.
