The only limitations I had in mind (and they're fairly loose anyway) were for the bands to be Irish (Republic of) in origin and that the tunes are less well known than the big chart hits. The less well recognised work of well known bands for example. Songs that deserve a dusting off now that they aren't overshadowed by the successful hits. The bands that didn't get massive exposure are welcome too. It's turning out to be a rewarding thread. Keep it going, we may beat the disco thread yet, heeheehee. They dropped in for some refreshments and just for the hell of it, set up their gear and performed for an incredible 2 hours to an audience of maybe 20 people. Terrific guitarist. Truly one of the best. [/quote] Yes, he was a world class guitarist and played with some of the best jazz artists out there. Though he toured abroad, he was a bit of a "home bird" and preferred to stay in Ireland. This probably resulted in him not getting the world acclaim he deserved. Something Happens were a great wee band. Other favourite tracks from that time that I listened to- An Emotional Fish (nice bass intro to Celebrate!- https://youtu.be/-f8JI9R5Suo ) Thee Amazing Collossal Men: Superloveexperience (https://youtu.be/5BsqszSYvxI) The Frames - probably better known now for singer Glen Hansard's movie career in Once (and his Oscar-winning song from the movie, Falling Slowly: https://youtu.be/FkFB8f8bzbY), they were a great indie pop band in their own right. Hansard's latest incarnation, The Swell Season, is also worth a listen. (The movie was directed by the band's old bassist John Carney, and if you want a real feel-good treat with great tunes, check out his latest movie, Sing Street!) [/quote] May I point out that I don't set the parameters of what is or isn't Irish nor did I say anything to suggest so. In the North of Ireland six of Ulster's nine counties are British. Everything else is Irish, the rest of Ulster, all of Connacht, Munster and Leinster - all twenty six counties of it. You've given me some homework to do however as I am new to some of the bands in your list. I'll enjoy catching up with that, thanks for the linkage.
