Merton
Hi all, My drummerist has a Gibson SG Studio bass he noodles on at home. Apparently the pickups are horribly microphonic and he's got to the point of no return and he wants to switch them out for something else. Any recommendations for suitable drop in pup replacements? Cheers! Mert
Andyjr1515
After lots of web research, I have gone for the DiMarzio DP120 Model One for the SG style bass I'm building at the moment. I understand that it was designed as a direct replacement for the Gibson EB neck mudbuckers and has very good user reviews. Not sure yet about the bridge. 3below
Seymour Duncan neck humbucker for the unmentionable R bass will fit directly in the bridge position. It will sound ok, but no great improvement over the Gibson humbucker fitted to my SG bass. Artec also manufacture a suitable sized bridge pickup. PlungerModerno
The original could probably be repotted - assuming it's a wax potted pickup.
Merton
Thanks all. He's investigating re-potting first then we'll look at the DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan ideas
