bubinga5 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) I'm aware I've posted this before but someone had this live Donny album on at his house. First off Doñny has the best voice of any singer ever imo. And Willie Weeks,s bass playing on that p bass is just sublime. He must have been very aware of J Jamersons playing . very musical. http://youtu.be/YLUh70zp0LE Edited August 21, 2016 by bubinga5 Quote
Buzzy Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 One of the best live albums ever. Most people talk about the solo on the Everything is Everything but the whole album is an example of superb bass playing. I love the groove on The Ghetto. Quote
lowdown Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Everything about the album is just great. Fantastic performances all round. Great stuff. Quote
chris_b Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 One of the few albums where I bought the LP, Cassette tape and then the CD. Quote
julesb Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Here he is in action with winwood/clapton at msg. Was suprised it was him when I first saw this. The whole concert is great by the way. http://youtu.be/cbr0Fkg-3-o Quote
blue Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) Donny Hathaway Live is my favorite album. But keep in mind it's a compilation of at least 2 different shows and there's a ton of editing. I'm not sure "Jealous Guy" is completely live. Blue Edited August 21, 2016 by blue Quote
wombatboter Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Bought a Precision '71 here on bass.chat which belonged to Willie Weeks.. Quote
thebigyin Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Willie Weeks playing on this album is probably the best i have ever heard.....little ghetto boy is my favourite Bassline....like you say sublime Quote
Huge Hands Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016
....He must have been very aware of J Jamersons playing
If I remember correctly, he has been quoted several times in saying that Jamerson was one of his major influences. He was also on the accompanying CD on the Standing in The Shadows of Motown book about Jamerson. I love the DH Live album. I have worn it out listening to it many times! Willie's little fills and grooves are fantastic, especially on the track you posted. Quote
Dan Dare Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Wonderful player and never overcooks it. Quote
