stingrayPete1977
Headless Steinberger (?not my thing) with a pick played to a totally different rhythm, could it be much more different to the recorded bass? What else have we found out there? Anyone fancy a stab at who and what it is actually played on? Leland Sklar, Nathan East and Dean Garcia all come up in google searches. Edited August 21, 2016 by stingrayPete1977
lowdown
But even funnier. A Soprano Sax player has turned up to mime to a track with no Soprano Sax on it. EDIT. Dean Garcia was a lovely Fretless player and I think, played on some Eurythmics stuff around the same time. Fretless on that OP track, so my guess is him. stingrayPete1977
I enjoyed the sax mime too That was my thought, fretless Ray? Not a picked fretted steiny, lol

But, I think during my searching, strangely enough, he has, or had a headless Steiny (Talkbass I think). So, it may well be him doing a pi** taking mime? I am sure a geek will be along with the real story behind it all. I have got to say. Terrific, tight Bass playing on the track. EDIT : Yes, he might have used a Ray, and it does sound like one...And you are the one to know for sure!! kevin_lindsay
I seem to recall Dean Garcia saying he played on the original recording. The album was produced by Dave Stewart.

Actually the more you watch the video, the more funny things you see.
gjones
Two basses in this John Lennon video for 'Instant Karma'. Guess which one is the real bass player? HowieBass
Air bass doesn't count but Alan Partridge miming Palladino and 'Music For Chameleons' always cracks me up. http://youtu.be/VokAbAfTfCc

paul_5
I always liked Maiden's TOTP performances - here's one from German TV. Not strictly a bass 'mime' though... https://youtu.be/orr4MhDpvOM Edited August 21, 2016 by paul_5

Oh, and one of those Drummers is at the wrong gig as well.

Grassie
Mark King would often have his bass behind his back and not even pretend to play it, especially while "performing" slower tunes like "Its Over". 😃
stu_g
i remember going to my local pub and there was a covers combo there, a male and female, playing to a backing track. the suprising part was the male chap was bass miming with a musicman stingray, bit ott for a pub i thought!
