Annoying Twit
Any comments on Foulds in Derby? I happened to be randomly walking past, and dropped in to have a look. Time was limited as the rest of my family was waiting, but the store had much more interesting stock than I expected from the shop front. A very big emphasis on Cort basses, but it looks like they can order some interesting things. They sold SX drums, so I asked about guitars and basses. They told me they can get them, with prices starting at about £60-70. They quoted me £100 for an SX Jazz Bass. They also had a large number of "Spear" guitars. I asked about the basses, and they said they'd be able to get them too. The Spear basses look, IMHO, fantastic. But of course I don't know what they are like to play. Prices didn't seem incredibly low. £199 for a Yamaha Pacifica 112v instore, which is about full price. Though, their prices on their website look significantly marked down from RRP. Maybe negotiation is possible for anything at RRP. Overall, it looks like this could be a useful store for me.
OutToPlayJazz
I used to be a Derby dweller & Foulds supplied my first cello with hard case & also my first electric bass way back in the mid 80's. I don't know who's working there these days, but the sheet music department has always been excellent. James Foulds (Chas' son) has always been a shrewd operator & they do always seem ready to cut a deal. 30 mins away in Nottingham there's The Music Inn. Bev & Carol are nice people & they'll always treat returning customers very well. An hour's trip away is Electro Muisc in Doncaster. Dave Ryan will always cut a better deal than practically everyone else. Excellent store! Rich.

Surprisingly good for a small shop, and they've just started to stock Music Man stuff.
Jarhead
Foulds are a good shop if you want something that other places don't have. They will order pretty much anything for you. Although, I have found some of their prices to be quite steep in the past. If you are looking for another shop for guitars n such, Rattle and Drum music have just opened where sound control was, and they have a fair bit of bass stuff as well, and are willing to usually do deals on items, although I'm not sure on how they stand with ordering stuff in. Dubs
Yeah I've used Foulds a few times over the last 3 years. Always great customer service and they'll let you play around with anything you want if you ask nicely, but they tend not to cater for anything at the top of the bass market. Limited selection of bass strings as well. Nice selection of pianos though...
