essexbasscat
Hi all Setting up a jazz bass at the moment. I've put 45 -105 Fat beams on, but they seem a little too flappy for this bass Does anyone know of strings that are slightly higher tension than Fat beams ? I'm hoping that a little more tension will allow a slightly lower action I called Strings Direct today and they recommended either Ernie Balls, Dunlop marcus millers or rotosound. They did say they didn't have much experience around this enquiry and suggested asking around forums may give more information So here we are... Any ideas folks ? Thanks in advance all
discreet
DR Lo-Riders are a bit more 'tense' as far as I remember. The steel, not the nickel.
Lozz196
Rotosounds or Fenders from the brands I`ve tried.
essexbasscat
Thanks Discreet and Lozz, I was thinking about the low riders, I may well give them a go. I was offered a set today but missed them while at work - can't have it all I suppose The Jim Dunlops seem to be getting some good press lately, they may be worth a shot too. Anyone tried them ? Cheers all
LayDownThaFunk
Lo Rider steels 40-100 gauge. Same step I've made coming from the roundcore 45-105 gauge and the tension is very similar.
chardbass
The Dunlop Superbrights, including the MM sig set, are anything but high tension so best avoided if you want more tension. Edited August 31, 2016 by chardbass
essexbasscat
Ah, thanks LDTF and CB, I'll give the Dunlops a miss and try lower riders
