GarethFlatlands Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 I have a mildly silly collection of guitars considering how much I actually play these days and am looking to offload a couple of guitars. I don't know of any guitar based site as good as BC and my attempts on Facebook and Gumtree haven't got any results. Where do you sell your axes, or keep an eye on for new ones? On the off chance anyone's interested, I'm looking to sell a Gordon Smith Gypsy 2 SS and a '98 CIJ Fender Jazzmaster, both of which can be seen on the guitar porn thread. Thanks
RhysP Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Ebay, Gumtree, Facebook selling groups & on here, but for the best part of this year I've had zero success in selling anything.
GarethFlatlands Posted September 3, 2016 Author Posted September 3, 2016 Thanks, good to know it's not just a matter of where you post it for other people too. A small local shop offered to sell them for me with no charge on the basis that having them in the window would get people through the door but it kind of felt like that was taking advantage. I'm considering letting them do it but insisting they take a % of the sale.
Cat Burrito Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Recently Facebook has been particularly good as it's often local pickup with no fees. EBay always gets a sale but the cut is massive. I have bought and sold on Gumtree too. And then of course there is here. Thankfully I sold off the last of my mildly silly ones last month so I am back down again to an acceptable working number of instruments for the amount I play.
tedmanzie Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 (edited) bought and sold several items on www.thefretboard.co.uk with no issues. similar kind of forum to here and good deals to be had! Edited September 3, 2016 by tedmanzie
Thanks, I'll take a look and stay well away from the rest of the classifieds so I don't feel the need to buy anything else.

progben Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Usually Ebay or the FB buy/sell groups, although it's all about bass these days. I have a beautiful Baja Tele for sale in the classifieds if anyone's interested!
octatonic Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Another vote for thefretboard.co.uk Great place.
Musicman20 Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Fretboard, Facebook groups, and strangely Gumtree! If you are in or near a city Gumtree is worth a shot. I've stopped paying to sell things.
tom1946 Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Preloved is pretty good, sold a lot of stuff there: www.preloved.co.uk
Schnozzalee Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I've sold everything via Gumtree - The Geordies and Scots are great at buying my stuff and they always bring decent chat with them .
Winny Pooh Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) Stuff will sell on Gumtree if the prices are decent. Location is a factor too. I sell on Gumtree and ebay with the ebay price being 12% higher to cover fees. Gumtree has more one-text-&-gone types but you don't have to deal with the ebay buyers who change their mind following a sale nor shipping. Edited January 31, 2017 by Winny Pooh
Bilbo Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I sold my ES175 on Facebook but it ended up going to a friend two streets away so I am not sure that it counts.

hollywoodrox Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Gumtree so far but planning to sell on eBay , so have posted a thread on off topic forum for advice on couriers etc, I have sold a few on gumtree which is cool, although you do get time wasters lol.

kristinaelias Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 I've sold guirars on Gumtree, Guitar Mart, & ebay. Interesting nobody has mentioned Reverb yet, but I've not tried them.
Freddy Le Cragg Posted May 7, 2017 Posted May 7, 2017 My last 3 guitars have been from charity shops and all less than £15, An Eko Ranger, a Legato bowlback and a Harmony.
