Nicko Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 ......a la Duff McKgan. I'm never sure whether this is 'cos a) hes so wasted he cant remember what he payed last time round (although he claims to have beem sober since the mid 80s) he gets bored playing the same phrase repeatedly c) he's so good he wants to show off his knowledge of the fretboard and capacity to come up with an infinite number of similar themes d) he's a frustrated lead player As a player I like a bit of variation, but aside from bass players I doubt most of the punters really realise what I'm doing anyway. bassjim Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 maybe the first idea he had was the best one but due to state of mind cant remember what it was and has been chasing it ever since. Quote
Grassie Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I like him. Has his own style and sound. I like his first book (haven't got around to reading the second one yet). He's more successful than you. Quote

Grassie Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 If you want variation (from a "rock bass" perspective) may I suggest some Stone Temple Pilots. Or Faith No More. 😊 Quote
TheGreek Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I generally vary the 1st and 3rd bars slightly to add interest and to show I'm not programmed... Quote
Lozz196 Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I really like Duffs playing, and all of his bands, GNR, Neurotic Outsiders, Velvet Revolver, Loaded, and his current band, Walking Papers. Certainly on bass he has more of an identity to his playing than on guitar. Both of his books were good too. I`m def a fan. If it weren`t for the fact that his sig basses look far too "rock" I`d have one, but wouldn`t fit with my band. Quote
