Fender MIJ 'P-J' Bass - JV serial number

See link above - I'm guessing these were the precursor to the Jazz Bass Special as used most famously by Duff McKagan.

Not cheap, but certainly rare I should think and lower than I've seen regular JV precisions and jazzes going for....

Intriguing indeed. I'm tempted to say it's a Frankenstein. Body off the bass in the link or similar, Jap P-J neck and a JV plate? But...

I can't see where the JV plate comes in though? Maybe it's just a plate thats been added?

Close up of plate photo looks like it says JV. My eyes aren't the best though!

I'd guess that's it - worth remembering that the JV range - and Fender Japan in general, for that matter - was initially Japanese market only. I'm sure there were various models seldom seen outside of Japan, much as there are today.
