Not the Jackson's greatest song but what a sweet bassline
One of my favourite bass lines of all time. In the "Standing in the shadows" book, it says that apart from the opening few bars, no other bar is repeated throughout the song. Incredible. It's as if he was jamming around a theme and each time is subtly different from the last. Either that or he was so good he deliberately found as many variations as he could. Either way I have Basschat (and Bassworld before it) to thank for introducing me to the great man.
Monz
What a bass hero.... Still can't get over how lifeless the strings sound or it that done in post editing? I can hear lots of compression
Clarky
What about this vocal-free version of Bernadette? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LLPVqlSw_l4&...feature=related My all-time fave Jamerson lines though are on Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On"
rjb
Jamerson was brilliant. I learnt tons by playing along with his parts of "What's goin' on". I've got a set on my Std which I use to get an old motown boom. They sound great and will probably improve as they age. acidbass
I've just totally bitten the Jamerson bug today, what a fantastic musician. Does anyone know if any transcriptions of his basslines are available online or in published form? There are some of his basslines I'd love to learn (Darling Dear!), though I may well sit and transcribe them myself if there isn't any notation available already! spike
Theres also "Motown Bass Classics" published by Hal Leonard. Not as good as "Standing in the Shadows" but still worth getting if you're a Motown/Jamerson fan.
