Thunderbird Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I have come to my senses and realise that I have to much gear for one person and considering I don't gig I am selling everything apart from one bass and an amp and I am happy about it gasp lol Quote
Grangur Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I'm in the same position - I don't gig. I honestly envy folk who have 1 bass and can be happy with that. I imagine it allows you to "become one" with that one bass and really get to grips with it. But what bass will you keep? For me I'd have to select from PJ fretted PJ fretless Jazz-style fretted P bass (I've already discounted 5 strings... I think) Tough one Quote
Thunderbird Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 Think the keeper maybe a G+L the swiss army knife bass or something P bass Quote
Number6 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I'm not sure i have found the bass i am truly comfortable and happy with yet. My gigging go to is a Precision, i'd like to maybe just have two basses eventually. Quote
Barking Spiders Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 I'm far removed from my senses and while I've downsized pretty much viz all other possessions I'm a bit bonkers about instruments. I could cut my basses down from 5 to 3 but I can't bring myself to do this. If space gets tight one of the kids'll have to go. I've got a spare so that's not a problem. Quote

Skybone Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Managed to cut the collection down to a manageable level, but even though the GAS is almost gone, I still manage to acquire stuff. Even 'manageable' means having a backup. Quote

TheGreek Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I managed to get down to 7 from 11 - guess what - back to 11.... I'm not convinced that it's possible to downsize with so many great basses available.. Quote
discreet Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I'm getting very close to one bass and one rig... not quite there, but close... Quote

RhysP Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I've just got the one bass these days, don't even have an amp. Quote
blue Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I rotate all 9 of my basses for gigs. I'm not a collector. I have several GK bass rigs that I can match for specific gigs or venues. Blue Quote
Basszilla Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Two basses is enough for me. Main squeeze and a bit on the side as a backup. However I'd love another Matamp in white. In fact I'm trying to convince my band we all need them 👌😂 Quote
3below Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 Basses, unlike children, pets, cars, houses, significant partners etc do not usually consume money. Seems OK to me on this basis. Quote
BottomE Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I've got 2 goto basses out of 6. You may be right about culling the herd. I'm thinking of selling 4 and buying 1 nice one to replace them. 3 basses seems about the right number. 1 pickup bass in the house for grabbing and playing/recording when needed and 2 for gigging? Quote
Painy Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 I think one is absolutely right and can't really understand anyone who thinks otherwise. We are talking about one OF EACH bass here aren't we?......... Quote

[/quote] Same for me, I've cut down a fair bit over the last couple of years as I no longer play bass in a band (I'm more of a drummer these days) and even though there's almost nothing I actually want... I still end u buying things every now and then. It's an illness I tell thee Quote

skidder652003 Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 1 for gigging, one in the house for learning new stuff, thats it! Quote
NancyJohnson Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 A few years back I had a big clearout; just kept the one bass and sold everything else. Didn't play for about six-eight months. It was quite cathartic, to be honest, it was akin to offloading a load of surplus baggage. I then got a call from someone and the floodgates opened. Again. It was nice to have a reason to go out and buy something different. Quote
