Pow_22
Ive been chasing a reasonable live interpretation of the Chelsea Dagger bass sound recently. Its not so much distortion/fuzz but a valvey trebley clank. I use a valve amp and P bass and get closest by kicking in my LPB-1 and pushing my valves into breakup but its still not quite clankey enough. Im wondering if swapping my LPB-1 for a treble booster or the treble version of the LPB-1 – The Screaming Bird? I don’t want the sound to go thin and weedy but im thinking this may give me the more trebly valve clank I desire. Anyone here use one and able to comment? Edited September 19, 2016 by Pow_22
dannybuoy
If you want clanky valves in a pedal, I would get a VT Bass! Proper tube amp distortion comes from pushing the output section to insane volumes which you might not be able to get away with. Pushing the input with a booster will work but you might get better results from an actual overdrive pedal. Only one way to find out though and that's to try it! Painy
Can't argue with Dannybuoy there but if you are looking at a treble booster, I think you might find the Screaming Bird will just sound harsh, thin and scratchy. EHX do however do the Steel Leather bass expander which is (a) actually meant for bass and (b ) designed for pretty much exactly this purpose. Roland Rock
Fresh roundwounds, a plectrum and heavy attack towards the bridge will help too (if not already doing those. Apologies if that's stating the obvious) Edited September 20, 2016 by Roland Rock
