chrisba Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I've got a brand new Fender Standard MIJ P-Bass in shiny black with a white pickguard. I fancy a different pickguard to give it a bit of character, but not sure what colour to go for. Any ideas ?? ( preferably with pictures to show the overall effect ) Quote
waynepunkdude Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I don't think you can go wrong with checkered like the J in my sig. Quote
~tl Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 (edited) Anodised-gold scratch-plates look great on black instruments: [attachment=15394:0194060764_xl.jpg] To be honest they look great on any instrument – I have one on my sunburst Precision Edited October 30, 2008 by ~tl Quote
sgt-pluck Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 If you have a maple neck, it has to be black surely? Otherwise the anodised guard looks great Pluck Quote

Deep Thought Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Black all the way for me too-although my MIM has a red tort one-my original plan was to whip it right off and put a black one on, but I dunno..... Quote
Jono Bolton Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I had a black pickguard on a black Precision, but only because a brown tort one was too expensive Quote
Dood Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Yep! My CIJ with a rosewood board has a 3 ply black plate on it.. very nice! I like the white pin stripe round the edge of the guard!! - I'll get a picture up soon! Quote
neepheid Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 (edited) Not a P-bass, but +1 for BWB: Pickup's being replaced soon too, I know the white cover looks naff Edited October 7, 2008 by neepheid Quote
Noisyjon Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 +1 for the black guard from me too... [attachment=14492:BassBlac...dOnly_1_.jpg] Quote
johnnylager Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 It's a Jazz, but you get the idea. Or the anodised up the top... [attachment=14493:DSC00454.JPG] Quote
waynepunkdude Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 But with B + B where is the contrast? where is the part that jumps out? Quote

In the case of my Bronco, the nice shiny lipstick pickup I plan to put in it will certainly jump out Quote

waynepunkdude Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Wow that looks so good the Lakland next to it isn't worthy so it's only fair that you give it to me. Quote
clauster Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Black pickguard on a maple neck, but for a rosewood board I really like the red tort. Quote
Shaggy Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 +1 on BWB, but a mirror guard is so cool ....... Quote
