Far too many candidates to list, but if I had to choose one, it would be buying a £40 Boss Compressor c. 1986, to use through a cheapie 10 Watt practice combo. With, shall we say, 'less than noticeable' results.

Gotta say that having just read the reviews of the re-issued Area SB-1000RIB in Bass mag I'm sorely tempted to blow most of next month's salary on it. Kids might have to make do with beans on toast for a month

If we were in the market for an URB it would be a very different matter. A £10,000 URB would be a nice moderate bass, but nothing special.

We play some of the cheapest instruments going. We have chosen well.

It's all relative - that's my point.
