thebassist Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Sorry if this has been posted before - I did a search and couldn't find anything... Anyway - thoughts on it? http://www.fendercustomshop.com/series/artisan/artisan-postmodern-bass/ Quote
dannybuoy Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Nice, but wouldn't pay £3k for one! http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Fender-Custom-Shop-Artisan-Postmodern-Bass/1H22 Quote
Westenra Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 When I saw the thread title I thought this was going to be a joke regarding the American Standard line being discontinued, boy was I wrong! Quote
Roland Rock Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I was expecting something a bit more artisan and postmodern. Worse than being 'marmite' that bass is just plain dull Quote
markstuk Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 looks like someone stole my grannies sideboard and made a bass from the top.. minimalist or just dull? I can't decide... Quote
EliasMooseblaster Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 (edited) I call plagiarism - it looks suspiciously like my Frankenbass with an extra pickup (below centre)! Edited September 27, 2016 by EliasMooseblaster Quote
BigBassBob Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 All those modern touches and no easy truss rod access.... Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016
minimalist or just dull? I can't decide...
I'd go for for 'dull'. Quote
AndyTravis Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Looks like a Marlin sidewinder with the paint sanded off Quote
Cato Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Considering what 3k can get you bass wise, Fender do seem to be taking the pee with some of their custom shop pricing. Quote
thebassist Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 From the website. ----- "The 2016 Artisan Postmodern Bass is a thoroughly contemporary combination of Fender’s two most time-honored basses. Its roasted ash Precision Bass body features a gorgeous Tasmanian blackwood top and lacquer finish, paired with tinted quarter sawn AA flame maple Jazz Bass neck with a 1960 Jazz “U”-shaped profile and compound-radius (9.5”-16”) round-laminated rosewood fingerboard. Other premium features include hand wound 1962 Precision Bass® (middle) and Jazz Bass (bridge) pickups, rear-load controls and 1960 Jazz Bass wiring, medium jumbo frets and bone nut, A-string Stealth string retainer, RSD bass bridge, Custom Shop certificate of authenticity and black case." Source: http://www.fendercustomshop.com/series/artisan/artisan-postmodern-bass/ ----- I'm not sure you could particularly refer to this as "contemporary"? I don't dislike it but £3149 is just so overpriced in my opinion. I actually can't believe that pricing. Quote
Low End Bee Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 it'll look nice when they paint it. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 How can it be contemporary when it looks 80's? Looks like one of those self build kits for around £80 to me. Quote
wateroftyne Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 LOL @ Fender. Typical, though - the 6-strings at least get interesting tops, while the bass gets lumbered with the offcuts from your nan's sideboard. Quote
thebassist Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Personally, I'd like to see Fender continuing with their bread and butter traditional basses while experimenting a little more with other stuff - like what they did with the Steve Bailey 6-string Jazz. Quote

ZilchWoolham Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I think it's quite elegant in a way but it does seem strange that they would make the body out of figured ash and then top it off with a wood that looks just like mahogany. It's certainly no more boring than a solid colour, though. The price, however, is a joke, obviously. Quote
visog Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 How much!? Presumably that's the Custom Shop difference. Let's hope the QC is better than the regular production! Quote
wateroftyne Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 That J pup is far too close to the bridge, too. It'll be a weak as owt. Quote
HowieBass Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 The back looks better than the front, in fact had they used roasted ash for the whole body and a maple fingerboard it might start to look interesting. Quote
machinehead Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 At that price, it's only for the terminally gullible. In my opinion of course. Frank. Quote
