1969 for me...moving up to 'big school', learning to play the trumpet (!) and making little model planes. Didn't discover bass for another 5 or 6 years.

I was still playing with my action man and making airfix kits. I could also say I was watching Thunderbirds, but I'm still doing that thanks to the wonders of dvd.

On the musical front, it was around then I first heard the Beatles "I am the Walrus". Even then I suspected that things would never be the same again.

I was at boarding school, on a choral scholarship at Chichester so does that make me a professional singer? Stretching it a bit perhaps. And I played violin.

No interest in playing any musical instrument at all if I remember rightly...my bass-playing days began 4 years later.
I honestly cannot remember what interests I did have - I know I was playing a fair bit of table tennis but can't say I was that dedicated to it.
I did read 'The Hobbit' that year (I still have my very dog-eared and often-re-read copy of it, it was a birthday present) so it's quite likely I was planning an epic treasure hunt.

Playing Local Concerts on the Piano, (Classisally Trained from 3 years old) and still two years away from my 'rebellion' where I chucked it all in, and switched to Bass. (My pushy Mother REALLY loved me that day!)

The days of yesteryear where I spent many, many hours being able to just shred my bass. I think age 13-14 I had mastered many of my favourite albums. I'd get home (which was miles from any of my friends) and spent the evenings playing a whole album from start to finish. This was, of course pre-internet and I spent countless hours in front of my cassette player, betamax video player and any books I could borrow so that I can learn these songs myself. I wouldn't give up until I'd got every note sounding right! I can only apologise to my family members who had to put up with it night after night.

I'm now approximately 100 years old, tired, worn down and unable to remember where my car keys are.

Playing accordion or double bass (actually, a re-strung 3/4 size Cello) in my old man's folk dance band. The bass guitar didn't come along until a couple of years later, and then like Dood I used to sit in my room for hours, playing along to the radio and the top 40 show. Nowhere near this standard though.

Forcing young kids to listen to that kind of thing is bordering on child abuse!

First year at Rochdale Grammer (OK, OK...), where 3 years on I would start playing bass and form a band with my mates Steve and Jim. And here I am/was (shadowy figure in the background, i.e. typical bass-player) last Sunday with the very same Jim (big dude on the left with baseball cap on wrong way round - or maybe his head) playing with the Coolers at the Clevedon Tides Fest!

I was into radio controlled cars and push bikes mainly, I'd been playing acoustic guitar for two years,started jamming with an Avon SG bass around January 1990 after a mate bought a whole load of kit for Christmas just before. Shake your money maker by The Black Crows was our jam for a while iirc.

Don't think I really started listening to music that much until early teens so at 11 I wasn't quite there, it would have just been background music on the radio though my older brother's rock collection might have been having some subliminal effect even then. People who actually got up on stage to play stuff were from a different planet and something that wouldnt be remotely on my radar for some years yet.
