paul h Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I have only just discover the ZT Lunchbox and I am rather intrigued! A tiny, lightweight, lunchbox sized (natch) 200w guitar amp with a 6.5" speaker. http://www.ztamplifiers.com/products.html I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of them?
ribbetingfrog Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I had one for a few months. Wonderful build quality and really loud. Tiny and portable. I never got a tone out of it I was happy with though. Closest I got was putting a distortion pedal in front of it that had an octave built in. The octave really beefed up the tone. Without it the sound was always too tinny for me.
RhysP Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 They get lots of great reviews. The 200 watts is peak power though, the RMS is a lot lower.
MoonBassAlpha Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 My band is backing up a guy tonight who will be using one of these. It sounded fine in rehearsal today in my tiny room. Will report back to see how it works at gig level, if anyone is interested. He plays a telecaster with humbuckers. Sniggering - auto-correct wanted to change humbuckers to hamburgers
paul h Posted February 4, 2017 Author Posted February 4, 2017 Mmm...hamburgers. Yes, I would be very interested to know how it does...cheers
MoonBassAlpha Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Sounded pretty good on stage, but the guitar on the other side of the stage drowned it out somewhat (my Sessionette!). The fuzz sound through it sounded good, and was all there, but I think the amp was less than half up on the volume control. Would have liked to have heard it pushed a bit more. During the soundcheck, the sound man said it sounded great, I think he took a direct out the back of the amp.
paul h Posted February 6, 2017 Author Posted February 6, 2017 Thanks for that Nice to know it seems like a valid option! Ta.
MoonBassAlpha Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 There are some bits in this gig recording where the ZT is on its own, though he is using a Turbo Rat with a fairly spitty sound in front of it. At about 20 minutes the tune coffee is only the ZT, and some of the intros are on it's own. The more jangly clean sounds are the other tele through the Sessionette, the ZT is slightly on the right of the mix (recorded on a Zoom handheld H2) https://www.dropbox.com/s/xnv3x4a26htqi0p/AntonBarbeau-KK-03feb2017.mp3?dl=0
MoonBassAlpha Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 https://www.charmsagainsttheevileye.band/blog/2017/5/29/blog-post-2 Is another live recording featuring the lunchbox. There's less other stuff going on in this recording, so it's a bit easier to make out.
MoonBassAlpha Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Update: Having played 3 more gigs this month with the same setup, I now believe the amp used in the above clips is in fact the lunchbox junior. This is the 50W version, as opposed to the full-fat 200W one. Still quite loud though. I can post some more recent links to the last gig of this mini "tour" if anyone is interested.
