Tee
I'd be interested to try out a Sandberg P, the CAL P4 to be specific. Just the bog standard single pick-up model. Would anyone know where it's possible to try one in London? Or should i just forget about it?
Ajoten
Not really much of a reply, but there's an ad for a beautiful 6 string on the noticeboard at our rehearsal studios. Which are in the distant, but still vaguely southeast, Welwyn Garden City.
voxpop
I got my two Sandberg customs from Guitar Works, Reading Berkshire. Well worth a visit. Talk to John the manager who is also a bass player. Hope this helps.
Tee
Thanks Voxpop, i previously found my way to their site when originally searching. I noticed you can order a custom one through them. Of course a good play one first is important. I might have to plan a trip to reading at some point Edited October 10, 2008 by Tee
simon1964
Not very local for you, but PMT in Birmingham have 6 or 7 Sandbergs in at the moment. California and Basic series. And being PMT, they'll let you play them as much as you like, without hassling for a sale!
Geoff
The Sandberg website has a load of UK distributors on there, with links to their websites etc. Probably worth going through the list and picking out stores close to you. Sandberg basses tend to play really nicely, so I doubt you'd be disappointed!
tombboy
Got a Cali PM4 and it's bloody lovely! Have a word with Bass Merchant from this here forum. He runs the shop of the same name in Colchester. I've also ordered a Sandberg Custom through him. Only seven weeks to go!!!
Exile252
PMT in Leeds have loads, I haven't tried one yet, dunno why.

cLepto-bass
Just bought a Sandberg California PM from the fine guys at The Guitar Works in Reading and it is the best bass i have ever played. Play one, you will not be disapointed.
Tee
I understand they are both active and passive via to the push/pull pot? I'm really only interested in passive. Do they still sound good when used passive or are they designed more for use with the active setting.
tombboy
Great sounding in passive mode... but a little push to kick in the active and it's game over! These babies are just monsterous!
wateroftyne
I wonder if they do them passive-only?

If they're switchable then you have the best of both worlds.

deezbar
I've ordered a LAKE PLACID BLUE CALI jazz 4 Lefty with a Hipshot D Tuner from PMT brum for the Chili's Tribute i play in. Ive played a couple and fell in love.i've got a feeling i'll end up using it on a lot more projects. Seriously good basses and great prices for superb handbuilt instruments. The Bear
Hey there folks! Those of you who live in/near Brum will probably know me as the evil swine who keeps putting these great basses in the hands of all and sundry who come to PMT... I use a Basic 4 Ken Taylor with a Cocobolo rarewood top on mahogany body. After playing 25 years or so, I can honestly say it's the finest instrument I've owned! Wateroftyne - as far as I know they don't do them as a passive option, but they are hand-built custom basses, so they may be able to do a one-off for you. The thing is, the money you're paying for is probably more attributed to the build quality, life-time warranty, playability and sound, rather than just the inclusion of an active EQ, so I don't know if this would make it cheaper or more expensive to make for them, as it's not the norm... I can ask the question for ya though! Ey up deezbar! How's it goin' treacle? What's this - your second one now? Nice. Can't wait to see it, fella... Tee
I've seen a Cal P with only 2 knobs on it, in the custom section, on their site. I'm guessing the second knob is just a standard tone knob, doing away with the separate bass and treble ones. I wonder then if it might be passive only. I don't know if i like the idea of spending a grand and having the volume knob permanently pulled out, to keep it in passive mode. I'd really like to know if they can build you a passive only bass. ezbass
PMT are at Music Live at the NEC as are Bass Merchant. I would hope that one of them would have some Sandbergs to try.
