[/quote] For me her first two albums (Plantation Lullabies and Peace Beyond Passion) are a good place to start. Incredible groove regardless of how sparse or busy the parts are, and some nice synth playing too. bubinga5 Posted October 15, 2016 Author Share Posted October 15, 2016 (edited) I was introduced to her with Plantation Lullabies which is very funky and has that Meshell sound, but Peace Beyond Passion is one of the greatest albums I've ever listed to. Her piano playing and bass work is just sublime. Her album Cookie, The Anthropological Mix Tape, is also very cool. A mix of hip hop funk and soul. She's in my sig pic photography by a really great photographer I can't remember. The thing is I kind of lost her later stuff, but like Prince changed over the years, you have to keep the faith. [/quote] Pour une ame souveraine - A dedication to Nina Simone I saw her at Ronnie Scotts a couple of years ago, it was one the best gigs I've ever been to. She did a few off this album at that gig and they were absolutely amazing, and while the album is much more 'produced' it's still great. And afterwards I told how much I'd enjoyed the gig and she kindly put me on the guest list for the following night, which was very kind of her and the second time was just as brilliant. Her back catalogue spans many genres from funk, soul, hip hop, jazz, through to alternative rock on her later records so where you choose to dive in can be quite different to previous albums but her passion is evident throughout it all. Personal faves for me would be the first two albums (Plantation Lullabies and Peace Beyond Passion) and the more experimental Spirit Music Of Jamia: Dance Of The Infidels.
