Wiring a jazz bass in series

Hi all,

I'm wanting to run my jazz bass in series, but I'm struggling to find a wiring diagram. I'm not wanting to have a parallel/series switch or push/pull pot. Just wanting series as 'standard'.

Any help, guys?

Well, its pretty easy. Just take the white wire from the second down volume center (the bridge hot wire), take the black wire from the neck pickup that is wired to the case of the pot (or some other earthing point), disconnect it from there and connect those white and black wires together (insulating them), and bobs your uncle. Then volume will be the first pot and the second old bridge volume won't do anything.

It sounds quite good.

You mean in series with just one volume and tone with both pups connected 100% of the time?

If so, then simply connect the neck pup "earth" to the bridge pup "hot" and then wire it as you would wire a Precision.

Each pickup will have a black and white wire (your colours may vary, but they'll be different colours), take the wire that is soldered to the back of the neck volume control (ground) off the back of the pot, so it's floating loose inside the bass.

Then remove the wire that goes to the middle lug of the bridge pickup off the centre lug and join it to the first wire that you removed. Make sure that it's isolated (electrician's tape or similar) and that's it.

Effectively you'll have a black and a white joined together at the end.

Do i need to splice and solder the 2 wires together, or can i just wrap them together in tape or heat shrink?

Why not just use a small terminal block then it is easy to swap back if you want to

Now't wrong with twisting and tape, or a terminal block. Anything is good as long as there's a good electrical connection.

I've got a Kiogon wiring harness in there, so I guess I could just stick both wires into an 'unused' block on the terminal?

Scrap that, there aren't any unused ones

Have chat with Kiogon. He's a helpful guy, He'll tell you what to do. When you go in, series and knock out a volume there may be other changes you need in the harness. I'm sure there will be changes you need.

If you're not into wiring, maybe he should make you a new harness?

I just soldered the two wires together and heat shrunk it so it's a good solid connection. Wow, pretty big difference in sound. Liking it Thanks for the help guys, I'm clueless around stuff like this.
