JapanAxe
This was me rather than the band, but I always like to tag Teddy Bears' Picnic onto the end of minor key rock/indie numbers.

Norris
A guitar part from Steve Hackett's Voyage of the Acolyte in the middle of I Feel Good (it fits so well!) Deep Purple's Lazy in the middle of Radar Love Hocus Pocus intro into Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Band The Blue Peter theme in any song, in fact many depending on the level of boredom on the gigs that are not buzzing so much - usually perks it up when the audience eventually catch on

Hobbayne
I also slip The Beatles Day Tripper riff at the end of Alright Now. I pinched it from Joe Walsh who did the same thing on an Eagles DVD

Rich
Our MD specialises in 'interesting' arrangements. For example: - 16 bars of Soul Limbo in the middle of Walking on Sunshine. - Mashup of Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This and 7 Nation Army. - 32 bars of Walk This Way in the middle of Walk The Dinosaur. TrevorR
When we did La Bamba we'd alternate the chorus with the Beatles version of Twist and Shout, that worked well. And watching Shrek yesterday with the nipper in the karaoke party at the end the do a great mash up of Listen To The Music and Happy Together I'd love to try sometime. mrtcat
Years ago I used to play with a band that put the theme to the kids TV show "Rhubarb and Custard" into tge ending of status quo's "Down Down". Was fun but I reckon that would be a bit lost on Joe public these days as both the song and theme are wildly outdated.
BassTractor
A chum of mine used to play organ at a church I went to and would improvise around a classical piece for the collection. After the service when we were having coffee I would be challenged to identify the "classic" on which his variation might be based... "Money makes the world go round", "Money, Money, Money", "Ain't too proud to beg", "Money" (Pink Floyd or Flying Lizards versions), "Ain't nothin going on but the rent"... convinced no one else in the congregation sussed.
Hehe. I used to hide well-known tunes in my collection improvs when working as a church organist. The vicar asked me twice to stop doing that, but I just (thought I) hid them better, and only really stopped doing it after the loud and clear voice of a little child sang along with my very slow pedal part: "Early in the morning, just as day is dawning, he picks up all the postbags in his van...". mr zed
I'm really enjoying this thread. I amuse myself occasionally on a gig by playing the bass line from Another Brick in the Wall throughout Anastasia's Left Outside Alone.
Cat Burrito
At the height of Britpop we used to do Common People in the style of Pretty Vacant.
