casapete
Seeing as someone mentioned Mr Buble, have you heard this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgmFXye1FLc Possibly one of the worst covers I've encountered in recent years. He seems like a lovely guy, and can obviously sing well, but come on, really? Back to Sir Cliff, agree with the previous comments re diction etc. That's just how he does it though. And the guitar sound certainly doesn't help too.... His back catalogue is formidable though, and has some gems from all his decades of recording. spongebob
I think it's just great he's still doing it, still being bothered to make music. Whilst it's far from my thing, it's also hard to take a dislike to. I think 'Devil Woman' and 'We Don't Talk Anymore' are also classic singles. ....and whist we're here.....look out, Cliff! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-LBI4wUA8k
blue
Sir Cliff's live version. Nation shocked as 'chicken in a basket circuit' guitarist beats the bollocks off Jeff Lynne while a 75 year-old pensioner grooves around like a man half his age.
"Grooves around like a man half his age?" I'm a Cliff fan but I find it interesting when I make the same comment about Sir Mick most here get negative. Again interesting. tauzero
Go back & listen to the 'I'm Nearly Famous' album - particularly ;Devil Woman'.
I remember when that came out - heard it on the radio, not knowing who it was, and thought that the band was fine but they could do with a rockier singer. Saw them in a small venue in 2015 and they almost completely crashed "Honkey Tonk Women" The keyboard player screws up the timing in the cow bell intro and threw Kieth off. Somehow Mick pulled everyone together, but it took a while. Who noticed probably me and a few other musicians. I also take issue when some rich bloke brings all his kids to the show to prove how cool his generation was. At least my kids were honest and told me they don't give a rats arse about The Stones. lojo
I like Cliff, some of his hits from the 70s and 80s are guilty pleasures and if Whitesnake had recorded them they'd have been excepted by the masses. He also made a great comment once about how he is the real rock and roll thing , as he lives how he wants and rebels against what's expected of him (like throwing TVs out of windows , womanising and drinking etc ). ,
