obbm Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I did some more searching last night and this is the Bacchus Japanese site. http://www.deviser-bacchus.com/products/universe-series-bass/wjb-mini/ Quote
DorsetBlue Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 As a Chowny owner, I would recommend the CHB-1. Quote
Rich Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 +1 for the Chowny CHB-1. It's not the woofy 60s monster that the retro looks might suggest, the tonal range is quite astounding. I eagerly hope for a 5-string version, for which I would be at the front of the queue. Quote
scrumpymike Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 According to the Bacchus website, the WJB Mini is manufactured in brown burst, red, pale blue, mid-blue, green, black and white - and turns out to have a 750mm (=29.53") scale length. Quote
jaccjazz Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Surprised no one has yet mentioned the Warwick Corvette short scale - 30", 4 string. Nicely balanced, light, with plenty of punch. They also produce a 32" medium scale - both 4 and 5 string. All available as active or passive. All are around £600.00. Have a look here: https://www.thomann.de/gb/warwick_corvette_basic_short_scale_bk.htm Quote
pfretrock Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Always thought the Fender Rascal 30 " was a bit overpriced. DV247 have one at 44% off, nice colour too. Slightly wider neck that Squier 30" scale. Never played one, was tempted once, but too expensive. http://www.dv247.com/guitars/fender-classic-player-rascal-short-scale-4-string-bass-guitar-ocean-turquoise--214275?utm_source=mailshot&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=hot-deals-at-dv247-20161125&utm_content=productlink-01 Quote
Frankieabbott Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 If you find one punchy enough to play slap on then please let me know. Quote

jazzyvee Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 A short scale alembic signature or series bass will do what you want. Quote
fftc Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I'm liking the look of this. http://reverendguitars.com/basses/mike-watt-wattplower Quote
Frankieabbott Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Specs say it's a 34" scale length....unless they do a short scale version? Quote
fftc Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Yeah, specs are waiting to be corrected. It's a 30". Mentions it in the initial blurb. Quote
mingsta Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I've got no idea if it's any good, but this one looks the biz. Some sound clips on the site. Not cheap at current exchange rate though. https://www.serekbasses.com/midwestern Quote
grandad Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Any idea of the price for the Wattplower? Pity about the colours! Quote
fftc Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017
Any idea of the price for the Wattplower? Pity about the colours!
I love the yellow! Greens not bad either. I worked it out at about £1150 I think, though I could be wrong. Quote
blue Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017
Guild Starfire
Very expensive. Blue Quote
Zummerbass Posted January 28, 2017 Author Posted January 28, 2017 I eventually got a Gretsch Junior Jet in tobacco burst. Cheap as chips but decent quality. It's got some growl and if I was playing punky/garage material all night I would be happy with it. For me it plays better with a pick. Back to back with my Precision at rehearsal...the P is the better all rounder. The Mike Lull short scale P looks fantastic! Sadly the price doesn't. Quote
