It's my favourite genre of music by far. It mixes elements of soul jazz and funk. These are a couple of my favourites. Incognito an album of there/his origins. http://youtu.be/5Ce3c3NIHp4

There are hundreds of great records from this genre that I love but this is in my top ten. It's so perfectly put together a piece of music.from the awsome bass line to the synth, to the keys and those fantastic bongos. http://youtu.be/T5R3_SbE7XQ

What are your favorites.?

Couldn't agree more. I lived and breathed Jazz Funk growing up (and still do). Incognito (I didn't stop playing the Jazz Funk album when it first came out), Morissey Mullen, the early Level 42 stuff and not forgetting Donald Byrd "Places and Spaces' album.

Kamasi favourite. http://youtu.be/3DM9fGXHhlk

I had the pleasure of seeing Kamasi live recently.

Patrice's vocals are even more stunning live.

Her voice is perfect.

I really hope she gets a solo album ( obviously with the West Coast Get Down) soon. Edited by Dad3353

Been big into jazz funk for yonks, major faves being the Brecker Brothers, Grover Washington jnr, Donald Byrd (Places and Spaces era), Azymuth, Blackbyrds, Morrissey Mullen, John Scofield, Mizell brothers, Herbie Hancock/Headhunters, Crusaders, Incognito, Marcus Miller and Down To The Bone. Loadsa fine bassmen from the genre e.g. Neil Jason (Breckers), Julian Crampton (Incognito), Paul Jackson (Headhunters) and Wilton Felder (Crusaders)

Lot of love for Julian Crampton on this thread, and rightly so he's a lovely chap, met him on a gig we did supporting Acoustic Alchemy a few years ago. Monster player and a really nice guy, gave me a lot of very useful advice about the music industry.

As for Jazz Funk I'm a huge fan, almost too many things to list but Herbie has always been a staple of my musical diet. More recently following the evolution of Jazz Funk being mixed with elements of hip hop and R&B I've gotten heavily into Snarky Puppy, Funky Knuckles, Roy Hardgrove, RH Factor etc.

I'm with the original poster on this, Jazz funk/fusion is my favourite genre. Unfortunately up where I am in the midlands we don't get too much of that live at all and most of the big names bypass us and go further north.

Although I'd listened to a few artistes like Herbie Hancock, Grover Washington Jr, The Crusaders and heard of others mainly from watching
the Old Grey Whistle Test, the first album I bought of the genre was Soft Space by the Jeff Lorber Fusion.

The first jazz rock fusion I heard was Romantic Warrior by Return to Forever and that is still one of my favourite albums to date.

I remember Herbie Hancock's Headhunter album was really popular in my neighbourhood especially with the musicians who used to rehearse in a studio on my street.

Sorta jazz funk with a disco edge Joey Negro's Sunburst Band is a damn fine combo, featuring Julian Crampton on bass. Some luvverly basslines across their 4 albums

More Jazz/Hiphop/Neo Soul than funk, but Robert Glasper is playing Birmingham Town Hall on 20th November. Edited by Dad3353

Seeing as Victor Bailey has just passed away, I thought I might post up this album.
