Yes, great album.

Hi lowdown,
big fan of JTQ been to see them about 10 times have about 18 cds,
also have B.N.Heavies but like Jtq pref their early stuff when it was rawer.
i was in a Acid Jazz band about that time very early 90s "wait a minute" then was my bible
we use to do about 7 tracks of that album, such a great Album that is.

Went to watch them at the Manchester Academy a few times had great nights there, 93 with "k-creative" backing ( remember them?) was there also in 98, so was made up when they released " whole lot of love live 98 at the Academy".
i think i pref them with Gary on bass it had more drive then,

If you liked that rawnes in ya funk you might want to check out garys other bands, he has done some top draw projects that
really is worth a mention.

A very good (long time) friend and ex-flat mate of mine played Gtr in the JTQ. (Paul Carr).
Also met Paul Francis and was friends (still am, via Facebook these days). He purchased my Wal 5 stg from me.

Yes, some good stuff and playing on your links.
Brings back some memories for sure. It was a great time for playing groovy/funky lines back then. :) Edited by Dad3353

Thats cool,
ahh yes paul carr played on the get organized cd, well sorry, some of the tracks on the get organized cd were taken from the BBC sessions, (prob to fill the cd out?) so just a quick check of the cd confirms yes he played on 4 tracks of the bbc sessions that made it to the album, line up about then was very fluid as i think james's brother david was also playing then, and also bass players, as well Alan Crockford at that time gary crockett was also about, infact credited to helping writing, like "tell it like it is" for the BBC sessions and two other bass players Robert Bedwell, and the very good Paul Francis ( worth checking out).

"It was a great time for playing groovy/funky lines back then"...still is ;) Edited by Dad3353

Some 'Sanborn' with plenty of in the pocket playing from Marcus.

More Sanborn with the wonderful Bob James (and Marcus of course).
Not really Jazz Funk in the spirit of this thread, more than likely too smooth for some,
but just some really nice grooves from world class players. :)

Mister Spiders - from one funker to another...

1) Find the youtube clip you want to paste in basschat and copy its URL - this can often be a case of CTRL+L followed by CTRL+C to first select the address bar and then copy the contents. Nothing appears to happen, you just should have the URL now ready to paste.

2) When replying in a thread, go to the More Reply Options button so you get the full kitchen sink of buttons. The 3rd one in is the Special BBCode button (as I write, this is between the eraser and the Font dropdown). Hit that.

3) Select Media from the BBCode drop menu, leave the dimensions box alone and then paste in the Media URL box the youtube URL.

4) Before you submit, remove the 's' from the end of 'http' - this is IMPORTANT for basschat as the code can't work without removing the 's'. So if you have https://blahblahblah then you should end up with http://blahblahblah after you've taken that s out.

5) Click OK

6) Use the Preview Post button and you should see your video.

I know I'm going overboard explaining, but sometimes tech people leave bits out as if they were obvious. I find it's best to explain as if you were getting a Spanish waiter to cut the wires on a bomb. Less grief and you get to keep your hair. Some hair. Well it's thinning a bit.

Someone's gonna have to tell me how to insert YT clips. I wanted to put up some of the very great Down To The Bone stuff, the current line up featuring Julian Crampton.

Hi Barkin, yea good shout, julian has been with DTTB since about the "cellar funk" cd about 2004 (before him it was Paul Turner from Jamiroquai and Brother strut, on "spread the word" and "crazy vibes...")
my funk band use to do "smile to shine" and " should've been you" great tracks to play and a good lesson in control from Julian on them tracks, my fave one is is a track called " Electric Vibes" on the supercharged cd with the great roy ayers freakin out on it.
tried to find that on youtube but could only find some not very good remixes of it ( dont go there !)
so here is funkin around

Do 'Down To The Bone' ever have any regular players ?... :D

They are very much like Incognito, with different line ups and many live ones. As far as i know. Rufus Philpot has played on many USA live dates. As for UK dates Jo Philpotts,Chris Dodd on Bass. The albums (new ones) are a mix of Julian Crampton and Rufus Pjilpot. I know which one i prefer. Although Rufus is a fine bass player. Julian was employed by Incognito for a reason. This is just awesome. you can guess the bassist. Solid and full of funk is Julian. He's such an incredible bass player, if you have ever heard Jacobs Ladder written by Julian.

Thus Julians 2 part bass on Incognito's Jacobs Ladder. And a very interesting story from Bubinga 5…..

I saw him play this track at an Incognito gig with my sister, and he was using an F Bass. I later asked him at a Down to the Bone gig at the Jazz cafe, what he used to record the bass and it was an F Bass. Also, it was the same F bass that was for sale on BassChat years ago that was sold to someone. The guy that eventually bought it/or owned it, converted the instrument to a fretless,(if I'm not mistaken).. i can't remember his name. It fell out of the back of his car on the motor way and the neck snapped.

He had it repaired . It was a natural 5 string F Bass. Was quite a few years ago. And yes that was a very interesting story from Bubinga 5.!!! But anyways, that bass was used, to record this fabulous record.
