1970 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Hi. I'm getting into the pre/power game. Only have one cab (ATM) @ 600w but would like to push it to the limit. Not sure if this is a factor but needs to handle a lot (a lot) of fuzz and drive. Pairing with ampeg pre. Older sh stuff is fine by me Quote
Acebassmusic Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Check out Powersoft amps. I used to use one and its relatively lightweight with plenty of power on tap. :-) Quote
Roland Rock Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Crest CA9. The daddy. Heavy though. Quote
scalpy Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Seen the Demeter in the for sale section? Quote
Dan Dare Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 A lot of power amps are stereo and you'll have to bridge them to drive a single cab (and generate the sort of power you're looking for). Problem is, very few like to run bridged into 4 ohms. Those that do tend to be expensive - Lab Gruppen and the like. Quote
jazzyvee Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I bought a QSC PLX 2402 used and it is fantastic powerful and clean. Apart from the weight it is a fantastic power amp reliable and you can use 2 x 4 ohm cabs per side should you wish. Quote

k50 Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Bit of a plug but I have a Powersoft M30D i'm thinking of moving on ! Few months old and only been used half a dozen times ....... Quote
jacko Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Another vote for QSC. I've had my PLX 2402 for years and it's never let me down. More power than you could ever use. Quote
W1_Pro Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) If you are interested, I have a QSC PLX 1202 for sale for £149. It runs bridged into 4 ohms and puts out 1200w. It's the last of our ex hire PLX's. We had forty of them at one point. Never had one go wrong. Rock solid amps.Utterly reliable, sound great. PM me if interested. W1_Pro Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 By the way, don't be fooled by my avatar, I'm in Sri Lanka, the amp is in Suffolk! Quote
NancyJohnson Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 (edited) Matrix Amplification GT1000FX. I have a this racked (a shallow Gator 4U) and run a Sansamp RBI into it. Very happy. As it's dual channel, I'm able to pair it with a pair of cabinets and feed it two independent inputs. It's loud, light, looks good and reliable. What's not to like?
