patrikmarky
I've just acquired a new bass with 17mm string spacing ...I wondering if I can get a new bridge with adj string spacing and increase the spacing ..the nut end width and heel end width of the neck is the same as my sandberg which I think is 19mm. I can't see a problem short of where the poles are on the pups ...anyone else done this .. Thanks Pat
Musashimonkey
Hi Pat, Never done it myself. The other consideration would be if the fret board is wide enough to accommodate the extra width, or if it would push the strings too close to the edge and become unplayable...? [/quote]..hi mate ..I thought of an adjustable bridge ..and my Sandberg is the same width at both ends and is 19mm spacing so in theory I can't see why it wouldn't work ..but wouldn't want to ruin a great bass .. paul_c2
Are the pickups spaced with 17mm spacing too? I'd have thought they are, and that a modification would lead to balance issues from string to string - some will be directly over the pickup poles, others will be a further distance away. Not disasterous.....but not ideal. Personally I'd give it a bit of time and see if you can get used to the closer string spacing. If its new, can you take it back? ambient
Just play it a bit, and adapt. I had a Zon 6 that was 16.5, at the same time as a Yamaha TRB6 that was 19mm, it didn't take much adjustment to switch between the two. Seems a shame to spend money and maybe spoil the bass.
