Jabba_the_gut Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) Just stumbled across this bass....quite different.... Stainless Bass Edited November 13, 2016 by Jabba_the_gut Quote
Happy Jack Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Hmmmm ... apart from offering you a real opportunity to scrap your existing technique and learn to play a cylindrical bass, what does it actually do that a normal bass can't do? Quote
ambient Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 You'd be for ever cleaning it. Looks horrible. Quote
HowieBass Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 How do you set any kind of relief with that (unless the neck gets thinner towards the middle) and what happens when you want to dress the frets or replace them? Quote
mikel Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) Love the shape and finish, for once a bass that looks a bit different. I have two basses that I have played for over 10 years without having to re fret so its hardly a first thought for me. Edited November 13, 2016 by mikel Quote
Jabba_the_gut Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) I don't quite get it either, but it was just something completely different! Website Edited November 13, 2016 by Jabba_the_gut Quote
HazBeen Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 That is the ugliest thing I have seen for quite a while... Quote
Jabba_the_gut Posted November 13, 2016 Author Posted November 13, 2016 And another website of some quite different basses.... Another lot of different designs Quote
Cato Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) I can't decide if if a cylindrical neck would make fretting hand muting easier or harder. It'd probably require a bit of adjustment on the left hand slap/percussive mute (not sure what the technical name is) thingy though. Edited November 13, 2016 by Cato Quote
alyctes Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 (edited) The interesting thing about that is that the frets go all the way round. That might do interesting things to LH thumb position. Also, if you took the bouts off, you could play it with a bow Edited November 13, 2016 by alyctes Quote
6feet7 Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I absolutely love it (but then I used to be a GUS player, so metal tubing on an instrument isn't new to me). Quote
Bassassin Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 I think it's intriguing, would love a shot on one. IMO the model in the video's pretty ugly, but there are a couple of different styles available. This one's much more like it, IMO. Quote
fleabag Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Didnt we already do this ? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/291239-stash-ss/page__fromsearch__1 Quote
leschirons Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Any good for metal? And probably a good investment as of this morning, stainless scrap is £650 per ton. Quote
Happy Jack Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 And why do they never state the weight? They can hardly argue that stainless steel is an organic material and that weight will vary with the growth rings ... Quote
SICbass Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 (edited) Wouldn't tuning with temperature variations be a bit of a nightmare? Edited November 14, 2016 by SICbass Quote
Happy Jack Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Not if your technique is good enough. Quote

I like the one with f-holes, but what are those 8-pole pups all about then? Quote
BigRedX Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016
Wouldn't tuning with temperature variations be a bit of a nightmare?
IME from owning an all steel Born To Rock Bass, the tuning is actually more stable because the body and the strings (made of similar materials) act more evenly to changes in temperature compared with a wooden bass. Quote
lowdown Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 So, I presume the six string version has the low B and high C strings somewhere around the back of the neck. Nice sound though. Quote

MoonBassAlpha Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I would like to have seen a straight pull micrometer style tuning system. Quote
