scots_flyer1
I'm looking for a hard case for my DB and am wondering if there are any options I'm missing - I see a Mammoth case for £2,700.0 or thereabouts online which appears to best priced new case. Is there any place (or forum member) who might sell a second hand hard case? Any advice appreciated. Al
neilp
Are you planning on flying somewhere with it? If not, you don't need a hard case. They are a complete and utter pain, avoid if at all possible!

paul_c2
A friend of mine spent £800 on a lightweight hard case for a cello....so it might not be a typo....
Marc S
I had a G4M case which was about a hundred quid. They're not absolutely rock-hard shaped / formed cases, but they're fairly tough, or at least much better protection than a gigbag. However, as has already been said, they are rather huge and cumbersome. OK if you've got a van. But I had a biggish estate car, and I had to put all the seats down, then put the front passenger seat as far forward as I could, and it only just squeezed in, and I couldn't see out of the passenger window very well at all - let alone not being able to see the passenger side door mirror.... (there was no room for a passenger in the car, and not much room for amplification & stands etc) More trouble than it was worth IMO - but if you're taking it on a plane, or have / share a large van, fair enough Edited November 22, 2016 by Marc S
neilp
Honestly, don't even think about it> My DB is insured for £16k, and travels in a gig bag. Never been damaged. Buy a gig bag with 22mm padding and load and unload carefully. Flight cases are only needed for flying
