NancyJohnson Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 My mates daughter wants to take up the bass - at least I've had some influence on her - she's thirteen. I've had a look on eBay - there's a sweet short-scale Epiphone EBO on there - I reckon this would do her...any other names/models worth looking for? Gotta be cheapish - £125 tops maybe. Thanks P Quote
KevB Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 (edited) You also come across copies of short scale basses like Columbus SG copies, picked one up for about £100 on eBay recently. The bridges are poor making action adjustment very hit and miss but for a starter they aren't too bad, mine's playable. I think some of the Daisy Rock stuff is short scale and would no doubt suit a little girl aesthetically but unlikely to be in your budget even second hand; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-DAISY-ROCK-STAR-...p3286.m63.l1177 I also spotted this, might be worth a punt even if it needs some sorting out with the set up; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-4-scale-bass-guita...id=p3286.c0.m14 Edited October 13, 2008 by KevB Quote

OldGit Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Jim Deacon do a 3/4 p bass that's pretty good for under £100. Looks like a real one too http://www.expressmusicstore.co.uk/products.asp?code=67195 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I won this auction at the weekend - 32" Daisy Rock Elite http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250302493641 My daughter already has one exactly the same, but this one was so cheap I put in a low-ball bid in the last few seconds & my flabber was gasted when I won. Bargain! Quote
chrisba Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 My nephew had a Squier Bronco. Not sure how long the scale is, but it's certainly short. Sounded OK, but I hated playing it as the strings were so loose ( presuambly a problem on all short scalers ). Easily inside your budget. Quote
neepheid Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 +1 for the Squier Bronco - with reservations. I changed the bridge to a 4 saddle job in order to achieve correct intonation and that required modifications to both the bridge and the bass. Certainly easy to play and a surprisingly high output from the guitar pickup they put in there. Loved it so much that I'm upgrading mine - it's a keeper. Quote
Jambo63 Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Just had a quick look on GAK and came up with this shortscale Epiphone EG 0 SG http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/epiphone-eb-0-sg/469 cheers Fraser Quote
NancyJohnson Posted October 13, 2008 Author Posted October 13, 2008 I've passed over the EBO details to my mate. Thanks everyone! Cheers P Quote
