steantval Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) I spend a lot of time in my job driving and I usually listen to Classic Rock all day. I was in an area where the DAB signal was cutting in and out and changed over to Radio 2. As I changed, a song had already started, it was really bluesy with a great groove and superb vocals, almost SRV in style. To my great surprise Scottish Ken annouced it was Shakin Stevens latest release, Down into Muddy Water. Anyone else heard it yet? Edited November 24, 2016 by steantval Quote
SICbass Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 (edited) I haven't heard about this, but it's certainly piqued my interest. Love SRV, can't abide the Shakin' Stevens stuff of my youth. I'll have to try and youtube that. Edited November 24, 2016 by SICbass Quote
barneyg42 Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 There's also The Last Man Alive which I heard a while back on R2, on first listen I thought they were by one of the American country rockers, imagine my surprise!!! Good driving rocking tracks, nothing like his previous work! Quote
Phil Starr Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Guess Shaky is just another man in a covers band who wants to be doing originals Quote
Phil Adams Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I listen to R2, and a month or so ago I kept hearing a song I liked, but couldn't quite catch who they said it was by, sounded like they were saying Shakin' (no G) Stevens. Can't be................ Quote
police squad Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 yep I heard it too. Excellent. I might even buy the album Quote
Mickeyboro Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I wrote a book on him once. I had told the publisher I fancied writing about Cat Stevens... it didn't sell! 😢 Quote
lojo Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Yep, they've played it a lot , he's a versatile and talented guy old Shaky There was a great documentary about him a while back, he certainly paid his low level gigging dues before he got commercial success Quote
mybass Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 He is interviewed in the current magazine 'R2' aka Rock n Reel magazine. Quote
Bass_Guardian Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Heard Barry Gibbs new single on R2 the other day "In the now" Oh the autotune! Quote
lurksalot Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 I have to confess that I heard both and liked them , I did have a quick look around though to check no-one noticed Quote
barneyg42 Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 I played Last Man to my girlie last night and said guess who, she wasn't sure, played a bit of Muddy, still not sure. Played This Old House and she said she was going to say Shakin' Stevens but would have felt stupid if she was wrong!! Quote

TrevorR Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Andy "Wal" Coughlan on bass on the Shaky track. Top bloke, top player! Quote
ivansc Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 Worked the seaside circuit back in the seventies and worked with Shaking Stevens many times. Cracking band, especially his piano player. Wish I could remember his name - big black chap who blew us away every time. Quote
