Justin Chancellor on Tool's 10,000 Days, specifically, Jambi

Also, Joe Lally on Fugazi's Repeater album.

I would tend to agree on this.

Though I do actually quite like my own bass tone as well.

Know what bass Joe played on the Repeater album?

I'd assume it's the red Stingray he had, but I don't actually know

The sound of Joe’s bass on Waiting Room is right up there for me, it’s perfect.

I've always loved this bass tone, although never tried to achieve it.  Chap named Paul Martinez, who has sessions with the great and good in his CV.

Tony Levin with Peter Gabriel, especially Sledgehammer, Don’t Give Up and Digging in the Dirt.

Uncle Tony is one of my biggest bass influences, I'm a huge fanboy.

Lou Barlow's tone on The Lung by Dinosaur JR, specifically this live recording. The bass is solo at 1:50

I would also like to be able to play like him

It's an overdriven Marshall JCM 800, all tubes amp, an old SS Peavey bass amp, run clean, and an old all tubes Ampeg SVT, overdriven with an Xotic BB Bass Preamp run into it, all run simultaneously, of course with each their own cabinet.

Or at least it was in that gear rundown I watched where Lou shows and explains about his live setup:

Lou Barlow is another one of my absolute favorite bass players.

I like the fretelss Pino stuff he did with Paul Young.  Especially "Wherever I Lay My Hat..." or "Love of the Common Peeps".

Has to be either Danny Thompson for me

Hah! Didn't notice your comment, just clicked John Martyn without thinking and thought 'Danny Thompson!" so distinctive. Can't believe I've never heard this album. CD ordered!
