Musicman20
Lots of punk and hardcore bands in the 90s onwards use/used a Stingray. One of the reasons I got into them as a 12/13 year old. Good Riddance - mid 90s. Mad Caddies Lagwagon Screw 32 Descenedents The biggest influence for me was just the entire look...I loved the oval plate. As soon as I heard one, I was like 'that is IT!'. I remember walking into a music shop in 1976/7 and seeing a Stingray hanging on the wall. I instantly hated the oval scratch plate. I've got used to the look now but it took about 30 years. Frank. drTStingray
I was going to say exactly this, including the bit about the 40th Anniversary as my one arrived yesterday and it's superb.
Hey glad you finally got it. I really do like the sound of mine - it can be really thumpy even without the mutes on
Skybone
I had an '89 blonde 2EQ StingRay that sounded amazing, I stupidly sold, & later bought a mid/late 90's 2EQ StingRay to replace it. It didn't get anywhere near the sound of the '89, in fact I struggled to get a good sound out of it at all. Moved it on.
bakerster135
1991 Red Hot Chili Peppers give it away - actually it's believed Flea recorded this on a Wal MK1, used for the majority of BSSM (see here). You could use Aeroplane in 1996 though, apparently that's a Stingray. Edited December 2, 2016 by bakerster135

Musicman20
There are loads and loads of punk examples...some of the players above are actually VERY good players. Especially the Descendents bassist Karl Alvarez - check out their track written by Karl called 'Caught'.
