This Akai DAW was very highly regarded when it came out in 2001. Of course things have moved on in the last 15 years, but it is still a capable performer.

[u]The description[/u]

This has been the hub of my home studio for the last 10 years. I never got on very well with computer recording, much preferring hardware like this. It includes a 4-bus fx board, and has the last-issued software version (v3.02). For collection in person / meet-up, I am also including a SCSI drive bay and cable, containing a hard drive and CD burner plus spare cassette. NOTE: this machine does not do USB!

Condition is good for its age. All pots and jacks work well, except for the headphone output on the front of the unit, which suffers intermittent connection. Some of the membrane switches are rather stiff. The display is a little dim, but perfectly legible under indoor lighting when optimised with the contrast control.

Forgot to mention the installed hard drive is 20GB. Although this is small by modern standards, it still represents a hell of a lot of track-hours at full CD quality.

The hard drive in the external bay is 10GB so plenty to back up individual projects but not the entire 20GB disk.

Thanks gelfin, can't argue with that!

OK some more pluses and minuses as they occur to me:

[u]Plus[/u]
250 virtual tracks for storing alternative takes
Main and monitor outputs
Digital in and out on SPDIF coax connectors
Real faders and pan pots for [u]all 16[/u] record/playback channels plus master fader
Real gain pots for all 8 analog input channels - ideal for location recording, compared to the costly 8-channel interface you would need if using with a software DAW on a laptop or tablet
6 rotary encoders to the right of the display, for quick access to channel EQ and FX settings

[u]Minus[/u]
The hard drive can make a bit of acoustic noise
Not the easiest bit of kit to learn (but easier than Roland kit IMO!)
