Rich
Nice article about The Munch here. It raises a very good question... how long does it take to stop being the hired hand/new boy/etc. and actually become part of the band? wateroftyne
I honestly can't see the problem with it - it's up to the band. It's disappointing that the BBC are using a racial angle in their headlines. It's nowt to do with the colour of his skin.
BassBod
In his shoes, I'd rather be paid as is and not have to participate in "the business" of being in the band. I'm sure his lifestyle is all the better for it.
Bilbo
I always thought the same about Chester Thompson and Daryl Steurmer in Genesis.
KevB
It's all about a corporate identity for photshoots and the like. Status Quo eventually resolved itself into, essentially, just Rossi & Parfitt but there are other long standing members eg Bown and Rino. dave_bass5
Same with Bon Jovi, although i think thats partly due to the wishes of Hugh McDonald wanting to keep a low profile (at least, thats what i read ages ago)
wateroftyne
I always thought the same about Chester Thompson and Daryl Steurmer in Genesis.
Not the same IMO, 'cos they've never been in the studio with B,C & R.
spectoremg
Another non story from the Beeb. Did Genesis blaze a trail with Chester and Daryl or were there other hired hands replacing departees before that? (In other bands)? spectoremg
Also Ebeneezer Jagger wouldn't part with a penny more than he had to.

barneyg42
It's a non story for me too, he's been doing this since 1994! I'm sure he'd have walked by now if it was a problem for him. I feel by describing him as "the black bass player" the article shows exactly what it's trying to infer!!
HazBeen
Darryl Jones wasn't even their 1st choice. Doug Wimbish played on Mick Jagger's solo recording and was the #1 choice. Rumour has it he would have been made a "real" Stone if he had accepted. I am pretty sure Darryl Jones is ok with the role, made him more money than any of his other gigs. He is rumoured to have 250m USD.....

No lust in Jazz
Pretty much agree with BarneyG42's post above - They've had longer serving keyboard players who were never part of the band.
chris_b
REM's drummer, Hugh McDonald, the other guys in the Eagles and Steely Dan, Pino etc etc. If you come in to replace a founding member then you're not guaranteed to become one of the band. Many never do. . . . it's not news.
interpol52
I would have thought its the perfect situation, he gets to do the rehearsals, live shows and recording (the good bits) and not the interviews, photoshoots and get involved in any other band boring bits. Perfect!

Lozz196
The article also says it took more than a decade for Ronnie Wood to become an official Stone. Edited November 30, 2016 by Lozz196

Bikenbass
Another non story from the disgusting bbc. Surprised this hasn't been picked up by the victoria derbyshire show and passed off as news or had the tag line "are you black/a bass player/overlooked, if so, please contact us (because it's a cheap way of getting a story)" added. lojo
What is sad is that the media have linked in with the fact that Daryl is black , which clearly not connected.
