xgsjx
Does it count if I use the original vocals (with their permission of course), but everything else by me or is that too much like a remix rather than a cover? Here's my version... https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/flashbacks-gx & the original... http://youtu.be/vkcgUZ21NRc
Mornats
Does it count if I use the original vocals (with their permission of course), but everything else by me or is that too much like a remix rather than a cover?
I obviously don't make the rules but that should be ok in my book. What I love about the composition challenge is that it's about hearing some very different interpretations of the picture. I can't see why interpreting what is classed as a cover is much different to the philosophy behind that.

There was a couple that I've done, but I really like my bass playing in this track. The mix could be better though, so I might play about with it if I get time. Bastav
Started out with an idea of doing a cover of Toxic in 7/8 time and this is where I ended up. https://soundcloud.com/organicpulseensemble/toxic A multitude of percussion tracks Drumkit (snare, ride, hihat, kick, each recorded seperately as I record in my apartment, i.e. no space for a mounted kit) Horns (two alto saxes, one flute and one baritone sax) Fretless bass Keyboard drone from my trusty old casio Vocals, I wanted it to sound like the ensemble was chanting the vocals which is a bit tricky when youre the only one in your ensemble. I sang the lyrics in three different voices and I managed to convince my better half to record a track aswell... Performed by Charms Against the Evil Eye. Matt Sewell - guitar, vocals Rick J Nash - drums MoonBassAlpha - bass, backing vocals, recording. We tend to play this once a year, on our annual trip to Paignton, the Oxford freaks seaside trip... *edit did a slightly dryer mix as demanded by the other two. Skol303
Well done to everyone so far! It's shaping up nicely. I'm finally on leave (had a bunch of days to use up - it's been a busy year!) and am about to starting working on something this week... Should be fun
Leonard Smalls
I've done a take on a 42 year old classic... Edit: just discovered that a private soundcloud track is actually completely private! Bilbo
Mine feels like a good idea badly executed this month. It sounded a lot better in my head and I wanted so much more from it percussion-wise but the time ran out and I can't do any more before the deadline so here it is. https://soundcloud.com/robert-palmer-1/have-yourself
Skol303
>>> UPDATE <<< To simplify matters when it comes to listening and voting... I'm going to set up a temporary account on SoundCloud and host a 'playlist' featuring all of the entries in one handy place (including those submitted via Dropbox - see PMs sent to those of you that this concerns). This will mean that everyone has access to all of the songs using mobile and tablet devices, as well as desktops, which will make the whole thing far more convenient for anyone sat on the sofa full of mince pies and sherry. I'll then delete the temporary account once the voting has ended. That is all. As you were.
Skol303
And I'm in... my first here in a while! Thought you should now in case you're planning on making the listening/voting a family event. Submission deadline is midnight on Christmas Eve! Painy
Hope this is permissible. This clip actually contains a few songs but I don't have any way to edit it down to just the one song as it's a facebook live video taken by the club owner where my band was playing last month (please also forgive the camera phone quality recording). My submission though, if it is okay, is our version of Boys of Summer which starts at 7:19. If it's not okay in this format though I'll happily withdraw. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10154649100138698&id=641458697
