Just thought I'd share a pic of my rare birds

Top is a VERY early L2 - used at Live Aid
Next down is a Transtrem - equipped XL2TA
Last is my XL2 in an unusual colour, painted pink at the factory

I keep trying different basses but always go back to Steinbergers

What do you have, Frank?
[/quote]

Oh just the cheapo Steinberger XT-2.

I bought it to take away in my campervan because of the small size but I've been very pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. I got a carbon fibre extension arm made to position the strap above the 12th fret. This is designed to fold away. I do intend to gig with it soon.

I'm also very interested in trying a Status Streamline in the future.

Frank.

I've had a couple of those, yeah. Really great for the money, to be fair to them

Would love to see a pic of your strap extender

I can email you a pic - I can't work out how to post an image here.

I'm actually getting mark 2 made at the moment. I think using the original strap pin as a fixing is putting the extension arm in my way when playing above fret 15 or so. Mark 2 will be fitted higher up the body above the existing strap pin.

Frank.

I've got a 1983 XL-2. A great piece of kit. Almost mint too. Plug in leg rest, later tuners

Lovely

Early transitional - beautiful

Curt Smith gave his to my cousin John (the band's monitor engineer) after the Big Chair tour. He says it's gathering dust under one of the beds but he still won't let me have it 'for a bit'.

I always wondered where his went. his best tone IMO

Could you find out the serial number for the s/n register?

I bought it from Pete Briquette, who played it onstage at Live Aid in 85

There're pics somewhere,

My 3 lovers : XP2 1991, a rare XP2 5A narrow neck in yellow dress 1987, and XL-2 1986.

I had a Hohner fretless with Select pups and Ebanol board back in the 80s - one of the few basses I do NOT regret selling.

Couldn't own another....

Hardly comparable with a good Steinberger is it? :-)

I had one of those; the main thing was that it was black and had a red strap, so it matched the outfits our band wore for the 2nd set.

I've had an '83 L2 fretless and an '85 XL2. I was stupid trading the XL2, but stupid is my middle name. B)
I have an old nice XL2/5 with a peculiar Haz preamp circuit. Just three pots: volume, balance and a weird "tone balance" that boosts treble in one direction and lows in the other. Here it is:

The somewhat cramped string spacing is an issue, but since the bass is sooo well sounding in the low register I can live with that. If someone offers me a trade for a four string - L2 or XL2 - I may reconsider...

I love these things. And they play wonderfully! I bought one of the cheap ones they do a few years ago. Recorded a full album with it.. sounded Great, but sold it as I just couldn't see myself playing it live. I'm a big lad and ibfelt like I was playing a you guitar! 😂😂😂
