jonunders Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Morning all. I'm looking for a jazz bass which will be reliable and sound good but the budget is limited to £500. Any recommendations or suggestions on basses to try? Thanks. Quote
BobVbass Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I'd see if you can scrape a Lakland skyline - secondhand should be in budget or look for a German Warwick Quote
grumpyguts Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 If new a Sire Marcus Miller, I have one - it's good. Quote

Coilte Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 (edited) You can't go wrong with a G&L JB2 Tribute. Amazing basses for the money. Paul S Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Squier 'Silver Series' would be what I would hold out for. Quote

FinnDave Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 You could get an almost new Fender MiM for that, recent ones are pretty damn good. Quote

acidbass Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I'd get a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz Bass and upgrade the pots/loom/output jack, that would be a cracking bass for about £300. Quote

Otherwise a newish used Mex Fender Quote

Check out you next local Bash to see who's bringing what. Quote
TheGreek Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Steal this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Squier-Vintage-Modified-Jazz-Base-/272465466491?hash=item3f7035147b:g:gYkAAOSwiONYMc2w Quote
Cato Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I'm very pleased with my Squier VM 70s Jazz. It was a good bass to start with, but after the addition of some Aguilar 70s pickups and a Ki0gon loom, it's really rather special. Quote

fleabag Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Another vote for the Sire V7 Miller. I have the Natural Ash model. Just be aware that its active, because some prefer passive Quote
KevB Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Should be plenty of used, nicely played in instruments for that budget. Let someone else find and rectify any teething troubles, have it for a few years then decide to move it on at a loss. Happens all the time. I got my US made jazz on eBay with hard case for under £400 when the new price was about twice that. In fact the shop receipt was still in the hard case and (because it had been bought on Denmark St) the owner had paid a bit over twice that and it was about 18 months old when I got it, apart from a few scuffs on the scratchplate it was mint. Graham Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016
Used G&L ASAT Bass. Blue
Not for sub-£500 this side of the pond Also, being an L2500 player myself I wouldn't get one of these if it was a traditional jazz sound I was after Quote

I've owned basses that have cost 5x the price and I've still always picked up the Squier. Incredible sound and playability and you can pick them up for buttons. Failing that I'd take a look at a Sire V7 if active is your bag. Quote
timhiggins Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Try as many as possible and work out if you want active or passive ,i have a sire v7 ,a fender jazz with j retro pre ,and squier vm jazz ,and would recommend all plus another to try would be the Cort gb74 which is very jazz like and any other Cort bass is well worth a try . Conan Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 I'd go for a second-hand Fender Geddy Lee J - either Japanese or Mexican made. You might just be able to get one for your budget. One of the best J basses ever made IMO Quote
