EHX Freeze - talk to me

Anyone own an EHX freeze pedal?

I need a way to sustain one note and then continue playing under it.

£100 is a bit spendy for two instances in one tune, but it does look like a great pedal.

Anyone own one?
I'd love to hear real world experiences from Basschat members.

I'm trying to approximate the effect using my loop pedal, but it is clumsy to say the least.

Cheers
Thomas

I've got one - love it & use it all the time for adding drones whilst i'm noodling. Its sensitive to exactly when in the envelope of a note you trigger it - if u trigger it during the initial attack phase you can get some strange effects out of it rather than the solid 'note' you were expecting...but this itself can be used to good effect.

I use mine with guitar as well as bass - check out Bill Frisell who uses one to great effect on 6 string eg https://vimeo.com/ch...235451/35664219

I've got one, it'll do what you want ,although
I find it tends to work better with chords Than single notes.

...oh yeah , and just to say that I didn't like feel of the foot switch on mine so I soldered in a non-clicky type of switch instead - works great: http://www.mattgallagher.uk/2011/07/replacing-the-footswitch-in-an-ehx-freeze-pedal/

Thank you so much Mickster and Noirbass!

This is exactly the kind of info' I was hoping for.

I ended up receiving a Freeze pedal as an early Christmas present.

It's fantastic!
My first out of the box use with my main instrument is documented here -

Using on some bass guitar today.

some noodling with a EHX freeze..... https://youtu.be/gmSO8iDsTiA?t=2m50s
(the reverb is from a TC HoF)
The EHX is nice n the way it adds a slight modulation(?) to the chord so its not a constant pitch (may someone else can explain better)
Had mine a few months and really like it. Agree with comments about the clicky switch though!

Yes, I've noticed that slight modulation too. I think the pedal could be improved though - it is rather simple and some more modulation options would make the drones less static (tremolo and gating effects, for example)

It HAS been improved
Check the EHX Superego

I've had both a Freeze & Superego, and I sold the Freeze as I prefer having more control and the connection options that the Superego has. Both do the job regardless, but I guess it depends on budget, board space and if you want the ease or more control of the overall effect.

Food for thought; If you like the sounds of the POG series, then check out the HOG2, as that does both POG & Freeze effects in one box.
