cobyone11 Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Does anybody know if you can use a Marshall Guitar Amp for use with a bass guitar if I only intend to use my headphones? Glenn Quote
3below Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Which Marshall? In my youth I used a Marshall !00W valve amp, non master volume for bass. No problem. I preferred my subsequent Hiwatt custom 100 though. 100W head into headphones will require careful use of the volume controls. I often use an open back guitar combo for low volume bass, can get some nice tones as well. Quote
T-Bay Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I have a Marshall B150 which is designed for a bass. Sound is gorgeous but it weighs a ton. Quote
cobyone11 Posted December 4, 2016 Author Posted December 4, 2016 Would you know if a bass through a guitar one would be okay? Quote
cobyone11 Posted December 4, 2016 Author Posted December 4, 2016 Thank 3belloew. I am trying to see if a standard Marshall amp would be okay for bass if only played through the headphones Quote
bazzbass Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 if the amp has a headphone out, why not? you can't blow the speakers can you? whether it sounds any good is unknown, you haven't said what amp you have. That would help, ie is it a 100w all tube head or a lil 10watt practice amp like mine? Quote
chris_b Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 Is this a valve amp, ie a valve power section?? Unless Marshall tell you a different story, you have to plug a cab into a valve head. I used a Marshall 100w Lead amp for years in the 70's. The guys in the Marshall shop said it would be fine and it was. Quote
RhysP Posted December 4, 2016 Posted December 4, 2016 A bit more info on the amp would be helpful. I'm assuming it's an amp that has a headphone out socket, in which case it should be OK but might not sound brilliant. If it's a valve head then, as Chris says above, it needs to be connected to either a cab or a dummy load. Quote
