Which Marshall? In my youth I used a Marshall !00W valve amp, non master volume for bass. No problem. I preferred my subsequent Hiwatt custom 100 though. 100W head into headphones will require careful use of the volume controls. I often use an open back guitar combo for low volume bass, can get some nice tones as well.

if the amp has a headphone out, why not? you can't blow the speakers can you?

whether it sounds any good is unknown, you haven't said what amp you have. That would help, ie is it a 100w all tube head or a lil 10watt practice amp like mine?

Is this a valve amp, ie a valve power section??

Unless Marshall tell you a different story, you have to plug a cab into a valve head.

I used a Marshall 100w Lead amp for years in the 70's. The guys in the Marshall shop said it would be fine and it was.

A bit more info on the amp would be helpful.

I'm assuming it's an amp that has a headphone out socket, in which case it should be OK but might not sound brilliant.

If it's a valve head then, as Chris says above, it needs to be connected to either a cab or a dummy load.
