Hi Folks

Because of an impeding house move, I'm putting this vintage 1970's, UK built, [b]Hayman 40 40 Stereo Bass[/b] up for sale priced at [b]SOLD[/b], which will include a gig bag. Insured shipping (which is what I'd always recommend when sending valuable gear) would be on top of that of course.

It was set up and strung with a set of D'Addario Chromes at last September's South East Bass Bash and plays really nicely, though it's hardly been used since then to be honest so the strings have loads of life in them! For it's age, this bass is in good working order and condition, though the stereo electronics could do with being checked over and being given a clean. The fretboard is in very good condition and the frets have a lot of life left in them too.. Truss rod is fine and works well and the neck is very stable..

To play, I would describe it as being quite a fast neck, though that's just my opinion and may be in part how I've had the action set up combined with the excellent condition of the maple fingerboard?

In terms of sound/tone, the 4040s have been described as being a bit like a hybrid between a Rick and a P Bass, but I think that's only part of the story.. IMHO, the bridge pick up has a mid tone to it that is very reminiscent of the Wal Pro models from the 1970's and the neck pick has more of a P Bass thump - all of which combines to make a very powerful sound with a lot of definition to it when the neck pick up is blended in... It is a 'stereo' bass but I've yet to really explore what the stereo options give you, but I expect that if that's your bag, then the stereo capability would add yet another tonal dimension to it.

When I got it earlier this year, I thought it might satisfy a hankering I've had for one of these for many years - partly because of it's visual resemblance to an old Wal Pro bass I had back in the 90's and the very retro hardware (which I really love) - but to be honest, I'm not enjoying it as much as I'd hoped.... And, like most 4 string basses I've had in the last 13 years, it just hasn't managed to displace my BC Rich Eagle from being my 'go to' bass, but that's not a surprise because the Eagle is just awesome! :)

Anyway, as a result, though this is quirky, retro and has a real unique character all of it's own, it's just not getting used as much as it should and right now, and with a house move coming up, it's time to let it go to someone else who's going to make better use of it than I have.

In the interests of full disclosure, I must point out that this is quite a heavy bass, though I have managed a few gigs with it without too many problems.. But will check the weight accurately and will post it up here ASAP.

As ever, I'm always happy to post items and were that to be the case, I would ensure it is very well packaged up indeed.. Much better of course, would be collection in person and anyone with a genuine interest is very welcome to come and visit and try it out at their leisure. Tea & biscuits plus lots of 'Bass Chat' are always on offer to fellow bassists! :)

Though I think I'd prefer a straight sale, a trade for some kind of P Bass could tempt me, so please send me a PM if you have anything along those lines or you have any questions?
