SH73
Is that a serious question? My guess is that it is. In case: No, I'm not on drugs. I never am, nor am I ever drunk. Why would you ask the question?
Only messing! There's only one Steve Harris. Am I JTUK now or does the title as ebs suggest go to he who hath thy gigging strides?

EBS_freak
Let me correct you... it wasn't my rider, it was a international jazz act who insisted on that spec. The venue, which had a very decent Meyer in-house system, didn't have the 9 wedges of the standard required.
The Tickled Trout has Meyer? Well blow me down. I find it funny that a jazz act has a rider. Most jazz acts I know would settle for an audience.
bazzbass
I try to say something complimentary even if they stunk " nice strap you have" hehe I try not to take up their time, I know how annoying that can be, if they're with others I'll just say well played, nice tone you have and let him socialise. If they're alone I'll talk gear maybe. If they were really good I might buy em a beer

Raymondo
I always try to speak to the bass player at gigs, if only to let them know that somebody was listening. Often I'll mention basschat and a couple have been on here. I have met a few basschatters intentionally too I met KevB when he played in a band I had played for,I have also been to see his excellent new band. He was kind enough to come over to one of my gigs in Birmingham and bought the delightful Seashell along too. I went to see 'shell's old band in Brum one night ....met some lovely people and had a great meal in my hotel. I travelled to Cirencester ( I think ) to hand over the bass in the bass relay to Steve and watched his band. I have met Big John when he delivered some of his beer to my local pub.....discovered that I had seen his brilliant Neil Young Tribute band previously! Yes , yes I talk to people and yes basschat is involved . I am happy to just go to a town for the night and see a band if the fancy takes me....I love going to Edinburgh to see Bedford Falls at the Barony for instance ....fabulous musicians all and friendly chaps ...funnily enough I haven't mentioned basschat to them ...I must go up again soon Skank's fabulous posts on here intrigue me and I keep thinking that I should go to one of his gigs if possible, but, then , it is said that you should never meet your heroes Edited December 6, 2016 by Raymondo
Passinwind
When you see a band in a pub or function, do you ever go and speak to the bass player afterwards?
The vast majority of the live shows I attend these days feature friends of mine on bass and that is a large part of why I go, so definitely. Since I'm in the US, very few if any of them frequent Basschat though. But FWIW, I know literally hundreds of Talkbass members in what passes for real life. radiophonic
I often get approached by other bass players at gigs. Usually the opening line is something like 'the venue said there was a cab I could borrow, so I didn't bring one...' . Other than that, some bands have this real insider vibe, where they view others on the bill as competition, in a way that the audience clearly don't. Bass players and drummers seem to be the least susceptible to that kind of delusion IME, possibly because they are the most likely to be sharing gear on split bills. I never think of asking about BC for some reason - normally there's too much practical stuff to deal with. Someone from here got in touch last week though and I think he's coming down to a little town centre freebee were doing at the weekend, with a view to doing some split gigs in the future. That kind of mutually benificial networking is always welcome.
yorks5stringer
Over the years I've had 3 Basschatters attend my gigs, one as recently as a couple of weeks ago. Why he sat texting all evening is beyond me.....LOL: he sat with his wife and listened attentively to the bitter end and rang me the next day to discuss the gig further. Anyway, in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man/woman is King/Queen. My Band really value my Bass, with them having spent a couple of years just playing acoustic guitars. molan
I certainly don't open up with "Are you a BC'er", but I've yet to come across a bass player that I've wanted to compliment that refuses to talk about their gear and how their signal chain is put together. The gear thing inevitably leads to titbits picked up from BC and I am constantly surprised by how many Gear Heads have not heard of BC!
Having spent many an hour working in a dedicated bass retail environment I can confidently say that less than 10% of our customers had ever heard of, or spent any significant time on, BC. Simply didn't register with most of the people we came in contact with.

Oopsdabassist
As I may have mentioned before, I was sat in a rather boring meeting in the Midlands, and I happened to comment to the guy opposite me, at lunch, 'long fingernails, you must be a guitarist', to which he replied, 'bassist actually', within minutes the magic phrase 'ever heard of basschat' came up, it transpired we had even chatted in same threads! small world say I! mr zed
My band is having a Christmas do tonight - the only night in the year where we get to go out together and have a few beers. Going watching a local band (like you do). I'll check if the bassist is on BC.
