I've got a box full of old sets of Prosteels that i don't use (when i think my strings are dead they're really brand new to most bass players), maybe i'm passing out a business oportunity! LOL

Have to confess to buying "slightly used" strings in the past to try them out. Though I thought it a bargain at the time, I've since learned that other folks interpretation of the word 'slightly' is different to mine.

I have loads of strings that came new with the Bass that I have taken off after a few hours use and swapped out with Flats.

However I tend to garnish mine with chopped parsley and a touch of vinaigrette....

That's a bit posh! Salad cream and a bit of iceberg lettuce on my strings thank you very much!

Used strings wouldn't be much use to me. The only reason I don't put a fresh set of rounds on for every gig is the cost.
The Fender flats on my precision weren't that expensive anyway so I was quite happy to pay the new price and not have to worry about whether the previous owner had suffered from leprosy!

This is also a good reason to check that, when someone is selling a Thumb, they're actually talking about a Warwick.

I've bought slightly-used flats to see whether I like them, and sold flats that I bought new and found I didn't like. It's a cost-effective way of trying different types, and cuts down on waste of valuable metals.

I've bought s/h doublebass strings to see what suits me and my bass.
At £150 and upwards it's expensive to buy new strings just to bin them after a couple of rehearsals/gigs if they don't suit.

I guess it does, like everything it's relative. Bass strings look expensive to guitar players, 6 string sets look expensive to 4 string bassists and double bass look expensive to everyone apart from harp players perhaps!
