stroker2575
Hi Guys, I am after my new obsession, the 51 reissue precision (2 tone sunburst) I have completed the google rounds and have come back with nothing. I know they stopped making these a few years back. Any information about these would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps owners comments or potential leads to purchasing one. Many thanks. stroker2575
Thanks for the reply. I'll re-check on there.
Cat Burrito
I've owned two and it is a great bass. It got lost to two great bass culls. They periodically show up on here and of course EBay / Reverb / Gumtree are the places to go looking too.
stroker2575
Thanks, I may even go for a 1970's telecaster bass on reverb. Not having much luck with the precision. Just concerned about what the pick-up is like on the old Telecaster basses.
therealting
I prefer the 55 onwards with the body contouring. I have a 56 Bravewood which is pretty damn cool. I think there's a Sting signature on Gumtree.
Shambo
Have you considered the Classic Vibe 50's Precision?

MattM
Check out Basses For Sale section, Gareth, he of the garden table of bass lust, has just listed one...
stroker2575
Might sound odd, but I have a sting signature already. I have considered classic vibe, I kind of set myself on the 51 reissue. That's great, thanks MattM. I have just messaged Gareth on his post. Just what I'm after. Winny Pooh
If you have the sting slready then why bother? I used to have one but never got the tone I wanted from it, was always a bit clean. Best pickup in it was a GFS rails guitar pup. The SD replacement is good too.
Delberthot
The Lollar pickup is a killer. Incredible and sounds exactly what I'd expect a single coil precision to sound like. I had one in my Warmoth '54 If you're going to get one then do it now as the prices have been creeping up. I bought my 2 tone one from an Ebay seller in Japan for £260 delivered about 7 or 8 years ago before they were discontinued and therefore desirable. I've never found anything that sounds anything like it plus they are really, really cool basses
stroker2575
I am going to sell the sting signature precision. Plays great, but not comfortable with the 12th fret inlay. Hopefully i can find a home for it with somebody that would appreciate it. If i manage to get a 51 reissue i would look into a SD pick-up. Depending how the stock pick up sounds. The price tags are huge now, like to know what they retailed at when new. I keep actively checking for 51 reissues but not that many for sale i guess. Delberthot
I think towards the end the '51 was about £900 brand new but originally much less. Like I said, I picked up a secondhand one for about a third of what they are selling for now but they were still being made at the time
